India: Attendants sometimes show rigid sentiment

KANPUR: On mobile replies the young son of the house attendant that 'Papa is cleaning the guest house momentarily.' So it is not feasible for him to attend your call.

The house lady kept the phone on the table after switching it off with a grin. 

She mumbled how could he be free when there is fixed a programme at the guest house. The whole of the day gets ruined this, she thought. 

The servants are not as much humble these days. They count for every minute of the labour exerted in the easier or more difficult work, added the lady.

India: Dependence on kins continues even after moving to fresh areas

KANPUR: Crowded localities force residents to find residential spaces in newer colonies which are more often situated in remote areas. People had to move for a cleaner, safer and peaceful places.

But, what they have to face at first hand is the non-availability of basic things required in their daily lives.

His mother and a sister too have died of Covid-19.

India: Jajmau residents experience rains & power cut together

KANPUR: Thursday remains a rainy day for the residents of Jajmau. The rain commences since the morning and continues to long hours in the day. The air has now turned out to be comfortably cooler. There is a marked difference between the previous day and today. The minimum temperature has lowered to a considerable degree. The hourly temperature at 5 pm was recorded at 28° Celsius.

As usually, the rains brought power cut in the morning that persisted till afternoon. Luckily the power supply was restored after 2 pm. 

India: Plea in SC seeks inquiry into mismanagement of COVID-19 pandemic

New Delhi, Aug 12 (PTI) The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Friday a plea which has sought a direction to the Centre to appoint a commission, headed by a retired apex court judge, for inquiry into the alleged mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The petition has alleged that the Centre failed to undertake timely and effective measures for containing transmission of the virus and an independent inquiry by a commission, appointed under the Commissions of Inquiry Act 1952, was essential to inquire into the "lapses".

India: HAL s Light Combat Helicopters deployed for operations at Leh

Bengaluru, Aug12 (PTI) The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited said on Wednesday two Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) produced by it have been deployed for operations at high altitude (Leh sector) at short notice to support IAF missions, "in the light of the prevailing situation on the border."

"It is the lightest attack helicopter in the world designed and developed by HAL to meet the specific and unique requirements of Indian Armed Forces reflecting the crucial role ofHAL in 'Atma Nirbhar Bharat', "HAL's CMD, R Madhavan, said.

India: Congress MLAs return to Jaipur from Jaisalmer

Jaipur, Aug 12 (PTI) Rajasthan Congress MLAs who were staying in Jaisalmer for the past few days arrived in Jaipur on Wednesday.

The legislators reached the city by air and are being taken to Hotel Fairmont in Kukas on the Jaipur-Delhi highway.

"We are going to Hotel Fairmont, and the next strategy will be decided by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot," Transport Minister Pratap Singh said.

India: Former Minister A Elumalai succumbs to COVID-19

Puducherry August 12 (PTI) Former Local Administration Minister of Puducherry A Elumalai succumbed to COVID-19 in centrally administered JIPMER on Wednesday.

Elumalai (53) had tested positive for the infection and was admitted to JIPMER on Tuesday, Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar told PTI.

Elumalai is survived by wife and three sons.

He was Local Administration Minister in the Congress Ministry headed by the then Chief Minister N Rangasamy in 2001.
