India: MP dials UP after after oxygen tanker gets stuck in UP

Bhopal, Apr 25 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh administration has dialled senior officials of the Uttar Pradesh government after a tanker carrying life-saving oxygen for hospitals in Sagar district was held up during transit through Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

A tanker from Bokaro in Jharkhand was on its way to Sagar, where the availability of medical oxygen was at a critical level, two officials with knowledge of the matter said.

The MP government had sourced oxygen from steel plants in Bokaro.

India: Night curfew brings hike in vegetable prices in Kanpur

Kanpur: What has impacted greatly due to the night curfew is the vegetable prices in the city areas. The vegetables have not been reaching the mandis from as far as Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Bilhaur, Ghatampur, and Unnao respectively.

Supply thus gets affected and it has resulted in a spurt of green vegetable prices. The growers are not able to reach the mandis at night.

India: Telangana to administer free COVID-19 vaccine to all: CM

Hyderabad, Apr 24 (PTI): The Telangana government will administer COVID-19 vaccine free of cost to the entire population in the state irrespective of their age, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao announced on Saturday.

Rao said it would cost more than Rs 2,500 crore to vaccinate everyone, and taking into consideration the importance of lives of people, this amount is worth spending.

The CM issued instructions to the Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and officers of the Medical and Health department in this regard, an official release said.

India: International umpire Thakur dies due to COVID

New Delhi, Apr 24 (PTI) Former international umpire Suresh Kumar Thakur has died due to COVID-19-related complications, Hockey India said on Saturday.

He was 51 and passed away on Friday in Mohali.

Thakur had officiated in several international tournaments including the Four Nation Tournament in Hamburg (Germany) and the Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

He also officiated in the Hockey India League in 2013 and 2014.

India: Train with 3 tankers of medical oxygen arrives in UP

Lucknow, Apr 24 (PTI) An Oxygen Express train carrying three tankers of liquid medical oxygen arrived in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday morning via a green corridor as the state battled a surge in COVID-19 cases.

The train arrived from Bokaro in Jharkhand.

In view of the high demand for oxygen in the country following a record spike in coronavirus cases, the Railways has decided to run Oxygen Express trains to transport liquid medical oxygen and oxygen cylinders across the country.

Indian Union minister Som Parkash in ICU due to Corona

Chandigarh, Apr 24 (PTI) Union minister Som Parkash, who had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week, is on oxygen support in an ICU of a private hospital in Mohali where doctors were closely monitoring his condition.

Parkash (72), Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and BJP MP from Hoshiarpur, had tweeted earlier this week, stating that he tested positive for the infection.

India: 15-year-old boy detained in rape case in UP

Shahjahanpur (UP), Apr 24 (PTI) Police here detained a 15-year-old boy for allegedly raping a minor girl here, police said on Saturday.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sanjeev Bajpai said on Friday, when the 10-year-old girl was going to get wood in a village under the Jalalabad police station, the boy took her to a drain and raped her.

The girl narrated the plight to her mother after reaching home.

On a complaint lodged by the girl's mother, the boy has been detained, police said, adding that the girl has been sent for a medical examination.

Indian SC judge passes away due to lung infection

New Delhi, Apr 25 (PTI) Supreme Court judge Justice Mohan M Shantanagoudar died at a private hospital in Gurgaon, sources said on Sunday. He was 62.

The mortal remains of the judge will be taken to his Rajaji Nagar residence in Bengaluru, where last rites will be conducted.

Justice Shantanagoudar was admitted to the Medanta Hospital due to a lung infection and was in the ICU. His condition was stated to be stable till late Saturday evening, but deteriorated later, sources said.

India: Lockdown in Delhi extended by another week: CM

New Delhi, Apr 25 (PTI) Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced extension of the ongoing lockdown in the national capital for another week, saying the severity of COVID 19 was unabated and positivity rate has been as high as 36 percent in last few days.

The lockdown imposed on April 19 night will now continue till 5 AM on May 3, he said.

"We will have to watch the situation for a few more days, whether the cases decrease or increase," he said.

India: Union minister Babul Supriyo & wife tests positive for COVID

Kolkata, Apr 25 (PTI) Union Minister Babul Supriyo Sunday informed that he and his wife have tested positive for COVID and hence he wont be able to vote in Asansol on April 26.

Supriyo has tested positive for the virus for the second time.

He, however, said mentally he will be with the BJP candidates of the Asansol area and will monitor the situation from home.
