India launches next-gen navigational satellite

NEW DELHI, May 29 (Xinhua) -- The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on Monday successfully launched a second-generation navigation satellite NVS-01, officials said.

The navigational satellite weighing about 2,232 kg was launched on board an expendable Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle rocket from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh state.

According to the ISRO, NVS-01 is the country's first second-generation satellites envisaged for the Navigation with Indian Constellation services.

India issues heatwave alert for 7 states

NEW DELHI, May 21 (Xinhua) -- India Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert for seven states, officials said on Sunday.

Heat wave conditions are very likely over some areas of Uttar Pradesh and Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, south Haryana, West Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and north Madhya Pradesh, according to the department.

Hot and discomforting weather is expected over Odisha during the next five days, as well as over Konkan region, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala until Monday.

India: Kanpur weather looks like repetition of year 2020

Kanpur: The weather remains extremely hot here. The maximum temperature was recorded at 45 degrees Celsius at the Meteorological Center of the Air Force and 39.8 degree Celsius at the Meteorological Center of Chandrashekhar Azad Agricultural University respectively.

India grounds MiG-21 fighter jet fleet pending crash probe

NEW DELHI, May 20 (Xinhua) -- The Indian Air Force (IAF) has decided to ground the fleet of Russia-made MiG-21 until investigation will determine the cause of the crash of one of these fighter jets in the western state of Rajasthan earlier this month, local media reported on Saturday.

The IAF has as many as three squadrons of the MiG-21's Bison variant, among the total 31 squadrons, with a total of around 50 MiG-21 aircraft. The MiG-21 was inducted into the IAF in the 1960s, and 800 variants of the MiG-21 have been in service.

China opposes G20 meeting in Indian-rule Kashmir and will skip it

NEW DELHI, May 19 (Reuters) - China said on Friday that it is opposed to a G20 tourism meeting next week in the disputed Himalayan territory of Kashmir in India and will not attend.

India, which holds the chair of G20 this year, has organised a series of meetings across the country in the run-up to the summit in New Delhi in September.

"China is firmly opposed to holding any kind of G20 meetings in disputed territory, and will not attend such meetings," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said.

India Rejects U.S. Report On International Religious Freedom

NEW DELHI, May 17 (NNN-PTI) – India yesterday described the U.S. report on international religious freedom as, one “based on misinformation and flawed understanding.”

The report talked about attacks on members of religious minority communities in India, in 2022, according to local media reports.

In response to media queries, regarding the U.S. report, spokesperson of India’s External Affairs Ministry, Arindam Bagchi, said that, it was “motivated.”
