India: Lovers found dead in Hathras, hanging from a tree

Hathras (UP), Jun 27 (PTI) An unmarried couple was found dead Thursday, hanging from a tree in Gausganj locality in Sikandra Rao area here, police said.

Prime facie, it seems Monu Yadav and Veba, both aged about 20 years, committed suicide after their relationship was not approved by their families as they belong to different communities, they said.

India: Naxal terrorist arrested in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Jun 27 (PTI) A hardcore Naxal, carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh on his head, was Thursday arrested from Chhattisgarhs Kanker district, police said.

Muiwa alias Gaganna alias Dokra, a member of the Mainpur-Nuwapada Divisional Committee of Maoists, was nabbed by a team of the state police's Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) from the forests of Rawas and Amapani villages, Deputy Inspector General (Anti-Naxal operations) Sundarraj P told PTI over the phone.

Indian honour killing: Two murdered in Amritsar

Amritsar, Jun 27 (PTI) In a suspected case of honour killing, a minor girl and her lover were murdered here, police said Thursday.

Police said the incident took place Wednesday at Majitha village, 20 km away from Amritsar.

The girl's father, brother and four others have been booked in the case.

Police said the 18-year-old youth was allegedly attacked with daggers near his house and was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police said before murdering the youth, the accused allegedly killed the 15-year-old girl.

India: Rape case registered against Aditya Pancholi

Mumbai, Jun 27 (PTI) Bollywood actor Aditya Pancholi was Thursday booked by Mumbai police on charges of raping a 36-year-old woman, who is also an actor.

Pancholi claimed he has been implicated in a false case, adding the law will take its course.

Suburban Versova police registered the case against Pancholi under IPC sections 376 (rape), 323 (assault), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) and 384 (extortion), a senior official said.

India: 5 awarded life term for killing journalist

Berhampur (Odisha), Jun 27 (PTI) A local court Thursday sentenced five persons to life imprisonment for the killing of a journalist in Odisha's Ganjam district five years ago.

The scribe, Tarun Acharya, 35, was killed on May 27, 2014, for exposing that child labourers were being engaged in a cashew processing unit, his family said.

Additional district and sessions judge of Khallikote, Srinibash Pratihari, held all the five accused, including the owner of the cashew processing unit, guilty of the killing.

One more accused is still absconding.

Delhi BJP to enrol teenagers below 18 as primary members

New Delhi, Jun 27 (PTI) The Delhi BJP will enlist teenagers below 18 years of age as "primary members" of the party during its membership drive scheduled to be launched from July 6, senior party leaders said Thursday.

The membership drive was discussed threadbare in a meeting of senior Delhi BJP leaders along with national general secretary (organisation), Ramlal, on Wednesday.

India: Spanish Co setting up commercial vehicles' inspection center

Kanpur: Safety gadgets of the commercial vehicles will be checked with the technical  help provided by Spanish company. A model inspection and certification center will be developed at Binnaur village of the district.

The state government has expressed its approval in this regard. There will be no need of transport department officials at this center to be set up at a huge cost of Rs 8.39 crore in an area of 1.26 hectare. A budget of 3.25 crore has been provided and the work on this project had also begun from January this year. 

India: Bofors Co shows interest in indigenous 'Dhanush'

Kanpur: Swedish AB Bofors Co which had supplied 155 mm Howitzer tanks in the year 1986 in the country now takes a decision to import Indian made Dhanush cannons from Kanpur-based fieldgun factory. The mechanism of this improved version of the cannon has drawn attention of the famous Sweden's company.

Senior general manager Anil Gupta of the factory said that the samples of the indigenously developed cannon with breach mechanism are ready. After thorough inspection,  the order will be taken up. 

Kashmiri killed by Indian security forces in Tral of Indian administered Kashmir

Srinagar, June 27: A Kashmiri has been killed in an alleged encounter with Indian security in Tral of Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district of Indian administered Kashmir, an Indian official said.

The Indian security forces' spokesperson alleged that a cordon and search operation was underway in the area following information about presence of Kashmiri separatist.

India: Goel demands ban on lottery in country

New Delhi, Jun 27 (PTI) Senior BJP leader Vijay Goel Thursday demanded a ban on lottery in the country, saying it is a social evil and hurts the poor the most.

Raising the matter during the Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Goel said single digit lottery has been banned and now even multi-digit number lotteries too should be banned.

He said lottery is a social evil and poor people suffer.

Goel said all parties should support his demand. Several members across the House associated themselves with the suggestion.
