India: Eleven students dead after minibus falls into gorge in J-K

Srinagar, Jun 27; PTI/GANASHAKTI: Eleven students, including nine girls, of a computer coaching institute died and seven others were injured Thursday when the minibus they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, police said.

The vehicle, carrying students from the Poonch-based institute, fell into the gorge near Peer Ki Gali on the Mughal road connecting Bafliaz in Poonch to Shopian, a police official said.

He said 11 students, nine of them female, died in the accident while seven others were injured.

India: Centre rejects Delhi gov proposal - free Metro for women

New Delhi; 28 June 2019; GANASHAKTI: Centre on Thursday rejected Delhi government's proposal to make commuting in the city's Metro free for women.

The Centre is learnt to have told Aam Aadmi Party's government in Delhi to look at alternate ways to ensure women's safety and access to transport network - reasons that had been cited by CM Arvind Kejriwal for making Metro rides free.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has a 50:50 sharing ratio between the Centre and the Delhi government.

India: Teenager abducted, raped in Rajasthan's Bundi

Kota (Raj), Jun 27 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and repeatedly raped by two men in Rajasthan's Bundi district, police said Thursday.

The incident took place on Saturday and the FIR on the basis of the girl's complaint was registered on Wednesday, they said.

The girl was waiting at a bus stand to travel to her aunt's house near Nainwa town on Saturday evening when the two men from her village offered her a laced juice and after consuming it, she felt dizzy, Nainwa Station House Officer (SHO) Lakhan Lal said.

India: Man held for raping 17-yr-old niece in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Jun 27 (PTI) A man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping her 17-year-old niece in Pratap Nagar area here, police said.

Based on a complaint lodged by the girl's father, a case was registered against Ravi Sharma under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and provisions of the POCSO Act, Pratap Nagar police station in-charge Sanjay Sharma said.

The accused was blackmailing the girl on the basis of a video clip and had demanded money from her, he said.

A probe into the matter was underway, he added.

India: Man gets three years in jail for molesting girl

Palghar (Maha), Jun 27 (PTI) A court at Vasai in Maharashtra's Palghar district has sentenced a man to three years' rigorous imprisonment for molesting a 12-year-old girl.

Subash Tamore, the accused, was found guilty under provisions of the Protection Of Children From Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Special Judge for POCSO cases A U Kadam also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Tamore in the verdict pronounced on Tuesday.

India: Naxal terrorist killed in encounter in C'garh

Sukma, Jun 27 (PTI) A Naxal, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, was Thursday killed in an encounter with security forces in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

The skirmish took place around 12.15 pm in the forest near Atkal village under Konta police station area when a team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on a counter- insurgency operation, Deputy Inspector General (nati-Naxal operations) Sundarraj P said.

India: Asian Golf winner Rashid Khan banned from DGC

New Delhi, Jun 27 (PTI) Banned from the Delhi Golf Club, former Asian Games silver-medallist Rashid Khan and his colleagues have been forced to practice at a wasteland on the outskirts of the capital.

A two-time Asian Tour winner, Rashid has been banned by the DGC along with a group of golfers from practising at the course since last January due to disciplinary issues.

To restore his playing rights, Rashid recently handed over a letter to DGC committee member Amit Luthra on June 3, but he is still waiting for a response from the club.

Missing man from India traced to Pakistani prison

Rewa, Jun 27 (PTI) A 25-year-old man from Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh who went missing four years ago is reportedly lodged in a jail in Pakistan, the police said Thursday.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs recently got in touch with state police to verify his details, the official added.

The photo and other details provided by the Union ministry matched with the profile of Anil Kumar, the missing man, Rewa Superintendent of Police Abid Khan told PTI.

India: Man held for rape of 17-year-old girl in Goa

Panaji, Jun 27 (PTI) A man was Thursday arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating a 17-year-old girl at Cujira village near here, police said.

The incident had taken place in November last year, police said.

The accused, Mohammed Rafik Patel, 31, was arrested after a complaint was filed against him by the victim's mother on Thursday at Old Goa police station.
