Indian: Collaborator in Rajiv Gandhi's assasination allowed to plea in HC

Chennai, June 25 (PTI) The Madras High Court Tuesday granted permission to Nalini Sriharan, a life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, to appear in person on July 5 and argue on her plea for six months ordinary leave to make arrangements for her daughter's wedding.

A division bench of Justice M M Sundaresh and Justice M Nirmal Kumar gave her permission to appear in person on July 5 at 2.15 pm to argue her case.

Delhi court sentences AAP MLA 3 months jail for obstructing polling

New Delhi, Jun 25 (PTI) A Delhi court Tuesday sentenced AAP MLA Manoj Kumar to three months in jail for obstructing the election process at a booth in east Delhi during the 2013 Assembly polls, saying offences relating to polls should be sternly dealt with.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal, however, granted Kumar bail on furnishing a bond of Rs 10,000 to enable him to challenge the order in a superior court.

India: Mom alleges daughter forcibly converted to Christianity

Coimbatore, Jun 25 (PTI) Alleging that her 22-year old daughter was forcibly converted to Christianity, a Hindu woman Tuesday petitioned the District Superintendent of Police seeking to restore her, police said.

The woman, a resident of nearby Arasur, approached the SP after the local police recently closed her complaint as her daughter during an inquiry told them she had embraced Christianity on her own volition.

India: 5-year-old girl kidnapped, raped in MP

Narsinghpur (MP), Jun 25 (PTI) A five-year-old girl was kidnapped and raped by an unidentified person in Madhya Pradesh's Narsinghpur, a police official said Tuesday.

The girl is severely injured and is undergoing treatment in a hospital in Jabalpur, he added.

"Some nomad families are staying on a plot near the bus stand under Ganj police station limits. The five-year-old girl belongs to one of these families. She was raped on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday," Narsinghpur Superintendent of Police Gurukaran Singh said.

India: Come clear on Triple Talaq Bill, Congress tells TRS

Hyderabad, Jun 25 (PTI) The Telangana Congress Tuesday demanded that the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) make its stand clear on the 'Triple Talaq' Bill.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) minorities wing chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail alleged that the Bill was nothing but an attempt by the BJP government to interfere in the Muslim Personal Law.

Therefore, the Congress has been opposing the Bill in Parliament, he said in a party release.

India: Additional 1.02 lakh excluded from draft NRC in Assam

Guwahati, Jun 26 (PTI) Over one lakh people were Wednesday excluded from the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam after they were found ineligible, adding to the 40 lakh names left out of the list published on July 30 last year.

According to a statement issued by the state coordinator of NRC, 1,02,462 persons were declared ineligible during the process of verification carried out by the Local Registrars of Citizens Registration (LRCRs).

India: NCP MLC arrives at Vidhan Bhavan dressed as slain Karkare

Mumbai, Jun 26 (PTI) NCP MLC Prakash Gajbhiye Wednesday turned up at the Vidhan Bhavan here dressed as slain police officer Hemant Karkare, to protest against BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur's remarks against the late ATS chief.

Gajbhiye came to the state Assembly complex, where the monsoon session of the Legislature is currently on, wearing a police uniform and carrying a placard that read: 'It's a superstition that I (Karkare) died due to Pragya's curse. I became a martyr for the country.'

India: BJP leader Vijayvargiya's MLA son assaults civic officer

Indore, Jun 26 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya, the son of senior party leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, was caught on camera assaulting a municipal corporation officer on Wednesday with a cricket bat during an argument over a demolition drive in Ganji compound area.

When contacted, the SSP of Indore, Ruchi Vardhan Mishra, said an FIR will be registered in the case and if needed, the MLA could be arrested.

India: BJP is playing "coercive politics" and "weaponising" institutions

New Delhi, June 25 (PTI) A Telugu Desam Party member in the Lok Sabha Tuesday came down heavily on the BJP, saying it was "breaking" the TDP by resorting to "coercive politics" and "weaponising" institutions.

Four of the six TDP members in the Rajya Sabha recently joined the BJP and sought merger of the TDP Legislature Party with the saffron party.

India: Rahul to meet Cong leaders from poll-bound states

New Delhi, Jun 25 (PTI) Notwithstanding his decision to resign as Congress president after the party's Lok Sabha election debacle, Rahul Gandhi will meet leaders from various poll-bound states to discuss the party's preparedness.

According to sources, Gandhi, who has not been meeting the leaders of various parties ever since he offered to resign as the party chief at the May 25 meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), is slated to meet party leaders from Maharashtra, Haryana and Delhi.
