India: Jet fuel price hiked by 3.22 pc to record high

New Delhi, May 1 (PTI) Jet fuel prices on Sunday were hiked by 3.22 per cent -- the ninth straight increase this year -- to an all-time high, reflecting a surge in global energy prices.

The price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) -- the fuel that helps aeroplanes fly -- was hiked by Rs 3,649.13 per kilolitre, or 3.22 per cent, to Rs 1,16,851.46 per kl (Rs 116.8 per litre) in the national capital, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

India: People's Liberation Army militant arrested in Manipur

Imphal, May 1 (PTI) An insurgent belonging to the proscribed People's Liberation Army (PLA) outfit has been apprehended in Manipur's Bishnupur district, Assam Rifles said in a statement.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Manipur Police and Assam Rifles conducted a search operation in Kodompokpi Lamkhai area on Friday and nabbed the militant, it said.

The insurgent has been handed over to Nambol police station for further investigation, it added.

India: Woman gang raped in UP's Shahjahanpur, video goes viral

Shahjahanpur (UP), May 1 (PTI) A 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped by five men, who also recorded the act and made the video viral, police said on Sunday.

The woman, in her complaint, alleged that on April 22, five men dragged her into a hut outside her house and took turns to rape her.

An FIR of gang rape was registered on Saturday based on the complaint of the woman, resident of a village in Madanapur police station area, Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Sanjay Kumar said, adding that a probe into the matter is on.

India: Set up cow shelters at block level: UP CM to officials

Lucknow, May 1 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday directed officials to set up cow shelters at the block level and make arrangements to save the bovines from the heat.

Speaking on the power crisis, the chief minister said during his recent Delhi visit, the Centre has assured that the state will get more electricity as well as additional rakes to transport coal.

India: 18 yr old nurse found hanging on first day at work in UP's Unnao

Unnao (UP), May 1 (PTI) A 18-year-old nurse was found hanging from a pillar of a nursing home in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh on the first day at work, with her family alleging that she was raped and killed.

Police, however, said the post-mortem examination ruled out rape.

The body of the nurse was found hanging at New Jeevan Nursing Home in the Bangarmau area of the district on Saturday, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sashi Shekhar Singh told PTI on Sunday.

India: Fuel sales growth moderates in April due to high prices

New Delhi, May 1 (PTI) India's petrol and diesel sales growth moderated in April while cooking gas LPG consumption fell as record high prices dented demand, preliminary industry data showed on Sunday.

Petrol sales growth moderated to 2.1 per cent in April when compared with the same period in the preceding month, while diesel demand was almost flat. Cooking gas LPG, which had consistently shown growth even during the pandemic period, saw a massive 9.1 per cent month-on-month drop in consumption during April.

India: BJP MLA arrested for assaulting BDO in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 1 (PTI) Odisha Police on Sunday arrested BJP MLA Subhas Chandra Panigrahi from his official residence here for allegedly assaulting a block development officer in Deogarh district.

Along with Panigrahi, his two aides identified as Akalu Dhal and Kumarmani Sahoo, were also held over allegations of launching a murderous attack on Tileibani BDO Krushnachandra Dalapati at Bhaliaguda village on Saturday.

India: Two cousins die due to drowning at Koyala Ghat in Kanpur

Kanpur: Two teenagers who went to bathe in the Ganges at Koyla Ghat in the Cantt area died due to drowning.

The police, who reached the incident, with the help of divers, took out the bodies of both of them after a struggle of about an hour.There was concern among the families.

Relatives of the deceased said that Sushant, 17-year-old son of Neeraj Pal, resident of Chakeri police station area, was staying at his maternal aunt's house for some days.

India: Gen Manoj Pande takes charge as Army chief

New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI) Gen Manoj Pande took charge as the 29th Chief of the Army Staff on Saturday after incumbent Gen MM Naravane retired from service.

Gen Pande, who was serving as the vice chief, became the first officer from the Corps of Engineers to helm the force.

Before taking charge as vice chief of the Army on February 1, Gen Pande was heading the Eastern Army Command, tasked with guarding the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh sectors.
