India: Over 45 cr (450 million) people lost hope of getting job due PM Modi's 'masterstrokes'; Rahul

New Delhi, Apr 26 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the unemployment issue, alleging over 45 crore people have lost hope of getting a job due to his "masterstrokes".

He claimed that Modi is the "first such prime minister" in 75 years to do so.

"New India's new slogan -- 'har ghar berozegaari, ghar ghar berozegaari (there is unemployment in every household).

India: School vans lack prescribed safety norms in Kanpur

Kanpur: How the school vehicles are running unbridled, refuting norms, its hallmark was seen in front of many schools in the city on Monday.

Children come out one by one after school is over the holiday in Kalyanpur. Several school vans are parked outside. The drivers start filling the kids in the van.

Most of the vans have neither a yellow stripe nor the letter 'School Van'.

Double the vehicle's capacity i.e. 14 to 15 children are stuffed like straw in the van.

India: 40-year-old allegedly found hanging from tree at wedding venue

Kanpur: A 40-year-old man, who had come to the city, to attend a wedding, was found allegedly hanging from a tree, police said here on Monday.

Virendra Singh Kallu, a resident of Kannauj, had come to the guest house located in the Bilhaur area. On Sunday, he was found allegedly hanging from a tree with a towel.

The guests who had come to the wedding ceremony identified the man and informed him of the incident to his relatives.

Bilhaur police station Inspector, on Monday, said, that the investigations are underway.

India: Kanpur's Barra-5 market encircles with encroachments

Kanpur: There are more than 650 shops in the market of Barra-5 area here. Solidified (pucca) shops of electronics, clothes, cosmetics, sweets etc. exist but what remains annoying is the pavement shops of vegetables, fruits, clothes, groceries, bakery etc. arranged in front of the shops. 

It is alleged that these footpaths and street vendors had to pay between Rs 50 and 500 per day. This appears to be a pavement deal.

Many times people start quarrelling with each other about setting up shops back and forth instead of sidewalks, it is reported.

India, EU decide to launch trade, technology council

New Delhi, Apr 25 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Monday agreed to launch an EU-India trade and technology council to address the challenges of ensuring trusted technology and security in the wake of rapid geopolitical changes.

The decision was taken during talks between Modi and von der Leyen.

Indian Rupee slumps 23 paise to 76.65 against US dollar

Mumbai, Apr 25 (PTI) The rupee declined 23 paise to 76.65 against the US dollar in the opening trade on Monday tracking the strength of the dollar in the overseas market.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened on a muted note at 76.58 against the American dollar, then fell and touched an early low of 76.65 in initial deals, registering a fall of 23 paise over its previous close.

India: Punjab to replicate Delhi's education

New Delhi, Apr 25 (PTI) The Punjab government will replicate Delhi's education model in the state where students from all economic backgrounds will get quality education, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on Monday.

Mann, who is on a two-day visit to Delhi along with his senior officers, toured health institutes and schools in the national capital to understand the "Delhi model" and replicate it in the state.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia accompanied Mann to a Delhi government school in Chirag Enclave.

India: Ex-Union home secretary Madhav Godbole dies

Pune, Apr 25 (PTI) Former Union home secretary Madhav Godbole died due to cardiac failure at his residence in Maharashtra's Pune city on Monday, family sources said.

He was 85.

Before taking voluntary retirement from the Indian Administrative Service in March 1993, Godbole served as the Union home secretary.

He had also worked as the secretary of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Urban Development Departments at the Centre, and principal finance secretary of the Maharashtra government.

India: Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani granted bail

Kokrajhar (Assam), Apr 25 (PTI) Independent MLA from Gujarat Jignesh Mevani was granted bail on Monday by a Kokrajhar Court in a case related to a tweet by him against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kokrajhar First Class Judicial Magistrate Bhavna Kakoty granted him bail with several conditions, details of which are awaited.

Mevani was taken back to the Kokrajhar Jail after the hearing, and his lawyers said they are working on the formalities related to the bail bond.

India Reports 2,593 New Covid-19 Cases, Total Rises To 43,057,545

NEW DELHI, Apr 24 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 43,057,545 today, after 2,593 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry’s latest data.

This is the fifth consecutive day when the number of daily new cases has surpassed the 2,000-mark, after lower tallies were reported in recent weeks.

Besides, 44 deaths due to the pandemic recorded since yesterday morning, took the death toll to 522,193.
