India: Change of month brings fresh school timing

Kanpur: With the change in the month, the school timing has also been changed from today. In view of the intense cold, the students were told to attend classes at 10 a.m. But this time has now reduced to 8.30 a.m. Though the minimum morning temperature has not increased much, the school authorities find the change in timing not improper.

India: Govt to get over Rs 39,500 cr under Sabka Vishwas Scheme

New Delhi, Jan 30 (PTI) The government is expected to realise Rs 39,500 crore from the Sabka Vishwas Scheme, a dispute resolution-cum-amnesty scheme for settling pending disputes of service tax and central excise, according to sources.

This will act as a big booster for the government, which is staring at revenue shortage from both direct and indirect taxes.

AA India's internal matter: MEA

New Delhi, Jan 30 (PTI) Asserting that the CAA is an internal matter of India, the Ministry of External Affairs said it has noted the European Parliament's decision to not put to vote a resolution on the citizenship law on Thursday and will continue to engage with the MEPs on the issue.

Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said India has noted European Commission's clarification that the EU Parliament's views don't reflect the official position of the grouping.

India: Chronology in gang rape case of 5-year-old girl in Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 30 (PTI) Following is the chronology of events in the 2013 case of gang rape of a five-year-old girl in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar area in which a Delhi court Thursday sentenced two men to 20 years in prison.

- Apr 15, 2013: Five-year-old girl gang-raped by Manoj Shah and Pradeep Kumar.

- Apr 17: Girl believed dead by convicts rescued after 40 hours.

Hope Indian govt will address concerns on CAA: UK

New Delhi, Jan 30 (PTI) Amid anti-CAA protests in India, the UK on Thursday said it hopes that the Indian government will address concerns of the people over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) as its manifesto commitment is "with all, development for all and trust of all".

Outgoing British High Commissioner to India Dominic Asquith also said the British side is "very interested" in a visit to the Kashmir Valley and has a standing request for it.

India: Death warrant issued for convict in rape-and-murder case

Surat (Guj), Jan 30 (PTI) A court in Surat on Thursday issued death warrant for a 22-year-old man from Bihar, convicted for rape and murder of a three-year-old girl in the city in October 2018.

The warrant, issued by additional sessions judge P S Kala, fixed February 29 as the date for hanging Anil Yadav, the convict.

India: Protesters gather outside Republic TV's office

Mumbai, Jan 30 (PTI) A mob of protesters gathered outside the office of newschannel Republic TV at Kamla Mill compound in central Mumbai on late Thursday night, the police said.

Earlier in the evening, messages asking people to gather at the English newschannel's office for a protest against "misreporting" of the firing incident outside Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi by a section of media were circulating on social media.

Police personnel were deployed in large number outside the channel's office here and there was no untoward incident so far, a police official said.

India: Looted 15th century antique Quran recovered

Jaipur, Jan 30 (PTI) A 15th century antique Quran written in golden words looted last year by a gang was recovered and a man was arrested in this connection, police said on Thursday.

The 1014-page Quran, which was looted by three persons in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district last year, was recovered on Wednesday, DCP North Rajeev Pachar said.

India: Hostage taker's wife dies after being thrashed by locals

Farrukhabad (UP), Jan 31 (PTI) The wife of a man who took over 20 children hostage died in a hospital after being thrashed by locals, police said on Friday.

The man's wife died on Thursday night while trying to escape but was thrashed by the locals on the spot, IG Kanpur Mohit Agarwal said.

He said she was rushed to a hospital as she was bleeding from a wound on her head but she succumbed to injuries.

Agarwal said the exact cause of her death would be known after post-mortem.
