IndiGo suspends flights from Kolkata to Guangzhou, China

Kolkata, Feb 4 (PTI) With the number of passengers travelling to China from the city dwindling following the outbreak of coronavirus in that country and the WHO guideline to contain the spread of the deadly disease, a low cost carrier is all set to suspend its flights between Kolkata and Guangzhou, officials said on Tuesday.

Another airline based in China which operates flights between Kolkata and Kunming has adopted a wait and watch policy.

India: PNB Q3 loss at Rs 492 cr as NPA provisioning spikes

New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) Punjab National Bank (PNB) on Tuesday reported a standalone net loss of Rs 492.28 crore for December quarter 2019-20 as provisioning for bad loans was raised substantially.

The state-owned lender had posted a net profit of Rs 246.51 crore for the same period a year ago. In September quarter 2019-20, the bank logged a profit of Rs 507.05 crore.

Total income during the quarter under review was at Rs 15,967.49 crore as against Rs 14,854.24 crore in the year-ago same period, PNB said in a regulatory filing.

India: Bharti Airtel posts Rs 1,035 cr loss in Q3 FY20

New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) Telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Tuesday posted a consolidated loss of Rs 1,035 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2019.

The company had recorded a profit of Rs 86 crore a year ago.

The company's revenue, however, increased by 8.5 per cent to Rs 21,947 crore for December quarter compared to Rs 20,231 crore in the same period last year.

India: Delhi polls: Cong promises unemployment allowance, cashback schemes, free electricity up to 300 units

New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) The Congress on Sunday promised to implement unemployment allowance of Rs 5,000-7,500 per month, cashback schemes for water and power consumers and challenge the contentious CAA in the Supreme Court if voted to power in Delhi.

The manifesto presented by Delhi Congress chief Subhash Chopra also committed to spend 25 per cent budget each year on fighting pollution and improving transport facilities.

New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday targeted the government over the issue of unemployment, saying it has "failed miserably" to generate jobs for the youth of the country.

He said Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman should not be afraid of answering questions raised by him on behalf of the youth, to whom the government is answerable.

India: 8-year-old girl raped by relative's driver in UP

Barabanki, Feb 2 (PTI) A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Sunday.

The accused was the driver of a relative of the girl's family. She has been admitted to the district hospital in a serious condition, they said.

India: Acid thrown on rape victim in UP's Hapur

Hapur, Feb 2 (PTI) Acid was allegedly thrown on a rape victim in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur district on Sunday, police said.

The victim and her family alleged that a relative of the accused initially pressed them for a compromise and when they refused, he attacked with acid.

They alleged that he targeted the girl's feet and escaped after the incident.

India: A day after Hindutva terrorist fired in Shaheen Bagh, security beefed up

New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) Security has been beefed up in Delhi's Shaheen Bagh, the epicentre of anti-CAA protest in the national capital, a day after a man fired two rounds in the air near the venue.

Two layers of barricades have been put up at a distance of 100 metres each and have been placed on both sides of the road leading towards the protest venue, a senior police official said.

India: Israeli national held with 2.5 kg charas in HP

Shimla, Feb 3 (PTI) A 42-year-old Israeli national was arrested with 2.5 kg charas in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district, police said on Monday.

Shaul Borov of Jerusalem was travelling in a Delhi-bound private bus from Manali, Kullu Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh said.

He was arrested after the Kullu Police seized 2.5 kg charas from his possession during checking at TCP Bajaura on Sunday night, the SP said.

India: UP Police arrests 108 PFI members in four days

Lucknow, Feb 3 (PTI) Police in Uttar Pradesh has arrested 108 members of the Popular Front of India in the last four days for their alleged involvement in protests against the anti-citizenship law, a senior official said on Monday.

The arrests are in addition to the 25 made earlier, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi told reporters.
