India: 10-yr-old girl raped in Jaipur

Jaipur, Feb 3 (PTI) A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an unknown person here, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday night at Marriage Garden in Murlipura area, they said.

The minor girl along with her family members had gone to the venue to attend an engagement ceremony, they added.

"A case against the unknown person has been registered and the matter is being probed," the police said.

India: RS again adjourned, opposition demanded debate on CAA, NPR

New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) Rajya Sabha witnessed repeated disruptions on Monday as members from opposition parties raised slogans against the government and demanded a debate on the Citizenship Amendement Act and NPR.

The House was adjourned within three minutes of reassembling at 2 pm as members from the Congress and TMC continued shouting slogans and did not allow BJP's Bhupender Yadav to move a Motion of Thanks on the President's address.

India: Rape accused BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand granted bail

Allahabad, Feb 3 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court on Monday granted bail to former Union minister Swami Chinmayanand, accused of sexually abusing a law student.

Chinmayanand, whose trust runs the Shahjahanpur law college where the woman studied, was arrested on September 20 under section 376-C of the IPC, a charge short of rape.

It is applied when someone in authority takes advantage of his official position and induces or seduces a woman to have sex with him.

Third coronavirus case reported from India

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 3 (PTI): In the third novel coronavirus case reported in India, another Keralite student who returned from Wuhan university on Monday tested positive for the infection, Health Minister K K Shailaja said here on Monday.

The student is in an isolation ward at Kanhangad district hospital in Kasaragod district, she informed the state Assembly.

Non-taxpaying NRIs to be taxed in India: FM

New Delhi, Feb 1 (PTI) Non-resident Indians not paying taxes in any foreign country will now be taxed in India, the Union Budget for 2020-21 has proposed.

At present, if an Indian or a person of Indian origin managed his stay in India such that he remained a non-resident in perpetuity, he was not liable to pay tax on his global income in India.

India: Rs 3.37 lakh crore (Rs 3.37 trillion) allocated for defence budget

New Delhi, Feb 1 (PTI) In a marginal hike, the defence budget was increased to Rs 3.37 lakh crore for 2020-21 as against last year's Rs 3.18 lakh crore, notwithstanding expectations of a significantly higher allocation to fast-track long-pending military modernisation.

The allocation compared to last year's budget estimate of Rs 3.18 lakh crore is an increase of 5.63 per cent but it comes to around 1.8 per cent if calculated against the revised estimate of 3.31 lakh crore for 2019-20.

India: Budget has nothing for Maharashtra, says ruling alliance

Mumbai, Feb 1 (PTI) The ruling Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress on Saturday termed as "disappointing" the Union budget, claiming that it did not offer much to the "highest tax-payers" Mumbai and Maharashtra.

Opposition BJP in Maharashtra hailed the Budget 2020- 21, saying it strengthens the economy and makes provision for the welfare of all.

India: Bhim Army chief vows to fight until CAA is repealed

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 1 (PTI): Lashing out at the BJP- led NDA government at the Centre over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), Bhim Army chief Chandrasekhar Azad on Saturday said a democratic country runs according to the will of the people not by the whims and fancies of the BJP and RSS.

Speaking at an anti-CAA rally here, Azad sought withdrawal of the "black law" and said the fight would continue till it is repealed and the central government expresses an apology.
