India: UP CM renames Faizabad to Ayodhya

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that Faizabad district will now be known as Ayodhya.

This announcement comes three weeks after the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government renamed Allahabad as Prayagraj.

“Ayodhya is a symbol of our ‘aan, baan aur shaan’, said Adityanath.

A town named Ayodhya already exists close to Faizabad.

India: Man beaten to death by son in UP's Bijnor

Bijnor (UP), Nov 6 (PTI) A 60-year-old man was killed allegedly by his son in Seohara village here following a argument over the former's drinking habits, police said Tuesday.

Deceased Yashpal had an altercation with his son, Rahul (37), on Monday after the latter tried to stop him from consuming alcohol, they said, adding that as the argument got heated, the son hit with a spade.

Yashpal was killed on the spot, officials said.

The accused fled from the scene after the incident and the matter is being investigated, they added.

India: Farmer commits suicide over debt burden in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Nov 6 (PTI) A 55-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison, with his family claiming that he was under stress due to debt burden in the district, police said.

According to Subdivisional Magistrate Inder Kant Dwivedi, an inquiry has been ordered into the incident that took place Monday.

His body has been sent for post-mortem, he said, adding that an investigation is underway.

Truck with banned polythene seized

KANPUR: A truck laden with 24 tonnes of banned polythene below 50 microns was seized within Kanpur Municipal Corporation precincts here on Monday. The total value of seized polythene has been estimated at rupees 13.50 Lakh.

Amrit Lal Nagar, the additional municipal commissioner stated that a truck laden with 24 tonnes of banned polythene was confiscated.

 

 

India: Nullah tapping still incomplete

KANPUR: Whether it is Sisamau Nullah or Nawabganj Nullah or Ranighat Nullah, unfinished work was creating hurdles in the tapping of different nullahs (streams) falling into the Ganga River here.

The work on nullahs tapping continues to be carried despite the expiry of the first time limit of October 30. Meanwhile, the testing of Sisamau Nullah failed owing to rupture into the connection within 15 minutes.

India: Power supply disrupted

KANPUR: Despite the state Chief Minister’s strict instructions for 24-hour uninterrupted power supply during the Diwali, the power supply appeared to have not improved in the city. About half-a-dozen power sub-stations in different areas remained inoperative on Sunday.

High-tension electric line of the Chhapar power sub-station was trapped in the morning which caused immediate disruption in the power supply to the general feeder for as many as four hours.

India: Sex racket busted

KANPUR: Acting furtively upon accurate information, the Rail Bazaar police have busted a sex racket in Kakadeo area here. Three people have been arrested so far. A diary was also seized.

The racket was being operated through the Whatsapp. Call girls and gigolos were sent to the customers on demand.

The police are searching for the girls and the boys involved in this spiteful operation. The call detail records were also traced.

India: 15-yr-old boy sodomised by two in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Nov 4 (PTI) A 15-year-old boy was allegedly sodomised by two men who also recorded the video of the act and circulated it on social media, police said Sunday.

The incident took place in Mathura village which comes under the jurisdiction of Charthawal police station.

A case was registered in the matter and one person was arrested, SHO Manoj Kumar said, adding that efforts were underway to nab the other accused.

India: Dead fish at Mathura ghats raise pollution alarm

Mathura/Agra Nov 4 (PTI): Environment activists and local authorities are alarmed as dead fish have been found floating in the Yamuna at Mathura, apparently due to the discharge of toxic waste into the river.

Thousands of dead fish have been seen since Thursday, they said.

People who had gone to the ghats for a bath were the first to spot them that day, an activist said.

Steps to minimise pollution

KANPUR: City reels under intense pollution shock ever since one week. Its air quality index stays at the most unsafe level.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the pollution has almost crossed the redpoint. Side by side, the nitrogen dioxide was also registered at 104.87 per cubic metre on November 3.
