India: Nullah tapping still incomplete

KANPUR: Whether it is Sisamau Nullah or Nawabganj Nullah or Ranighat Nullah, unfinished work was creating hurdles in the tapping of different nullahs (streams) falling into the Ganga River here.

The work on nullahs tapping continues to be carried despite the expiry of the first time limit of October 30. Meanwhile, the testing of Sisamau Nullah failed owing to rupture into the connection within 15 minutes.

Disappointed with this flaw the Jal Nigam had to close down the trial. Now, it is expected that two to three more days would be taken in another testing.

The broken sewer line in Jajmau area is being repaired. Besides, sewer clearing work up to a length of 200 metres is also underway. The nullah tapping work could be completed only after it.

In view of the delay in completion of the work, the Jal Nigam general manager RK Agarwal has extended the deadline till November 15. According to him, all the Nullahs would be tapped with the Sisamau Nullah tapping. Ranighat Nullah and Nawabganj Nullah will also be tapped by then.
