India: TRS wins Greater Hyderabad Mayor, Dy Mayor posts

Hyderabad, Feb 11 (PTI) The ruling TRS in Telangana on Thursday bagged the Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) with the support of ex-officio members and the AIMIM.

Vijayalaxmi R Gadwal and Mothe Srilatha, both belonging to TRS, were elected the Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively, by show of hands, during a special meeting of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

India: Farmers protest in Telangana against Agri laws

Hyderabad, Feb 6 (PTI): As part of the nationwide call given by farmers against the new Agri laws, peasants and leaders of various political parties held 'Raasta Roko' in various parts of Telangana on Saturday.

Congress and Left party workers staged dharnas on various highways across the state.

However police intervened and cleared the traffic.

Police said several people were taken into preventive custody.

India: Covaxin shipped to 11 cities in India- Bharat Biotech

Hyderabad, Jan 13 (PTI): Bharat Biotech said on Wednesday that it has successfully air-shipped its COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin to 11 cities in India in the early hours and that it has donated 16.5 lakh doses to the centre.

The company also expressed its deepest gratitude to the nation, all clinical trial volunteers and its partners for making this a successful and milestone public-private partnership for the development of India's first COVID19- vaccine, a press release said.

Indian man 'shot at' in US, condition critical

Hyderabad, Dec 21 (PTI) A 43-year-old man from Hyderabad was fired upon and injured in Chicago in the United States, his family members said here on Monday.

Mohammed Mujeebuddin suffered bullet injuries in the early hours of Monday and has been admitted to a hospital in a very critical condition, his wife said in a letter to Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao.

India: UP man held for 'raping' minor in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Dec 22 (PTI) A 21-year-old man was arrested here for allegedly repeatedly raping a minor girl after threatening her, police said on Tuesday.

The accused, a painter, hailing from Uttar Pradesh and staying in the girl's relative's rented house in Shamshabad allegedly raped the girl, they said.

The victim's parents had left her with their relative in October this year before leaving for their native place in Assam. When they returned to the city on December 18, the girl narrated the incident to her mother.

India: Dharna in support of farmers' demands in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Dec 20 (PTI): Expressing solidarity with the farmers protesting at Delhi borders against the Centre's new farm laws, members of different organisations including farmers organisations and Left parties held a dharna here on Sunday.

Diverse citizen groups from various walks of life joined the dharna and declared that they stand with farmers and support their demands for repeal of the three new farm laws, a release from the AIKSCC (All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee) said.

India: Owaisi attacks Mamata over remarks on AIMIM

Hyderabad, Dec 16 (PTI) Lashing out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her remarks that the BJP was 'spending money' to bring in a party from Hyderabad to her state to divide Hindu-Muslim votes, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said Muslim voters were not her 'jagir' (property).

Rebutting Banerjee's comments, Owaisi tweeted, "So far you've only dealt with obedient Mir Jaffers & Sadiqs. You dont like Muslims who think & speak for themselves.

India: BJP’s surge in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation poll stuns TRS

Hyderabadn; 04 Dec 2020 (UMMN): BJP has emerged as the second-largest party in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections dislodging the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) from half of the seats it had held.

BJP seats went up from 4 in 2016 to 48, while the TRS numbers came down from 99 to 55 - well short of 65 seats to get the mayor’s post.

India: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corp polls: BJP ahead in postal ballots

Hyderabad, Dec 4 (PTI) The BJP was leading over its rivalsin postal ballots which were taken up first in the counting of votes on Friday in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.

The BJP is leading in around 80 wards while the ruling TRS is ahead in around 20.

However, the party lead position would be known as the votes cast in the ballot boxes are counted.

Ballot papers were used in the election to the 150- ward city civic body on December 1.

India: Amit Shah vows to end "Nizam culture" in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Nov 29 (PTI): Union Home Minister and top BJP leader Amit Shah on Sundayassured that the party would make Hyderabad a global IT hub, a modern city and free from "Nizam culture"if voted to power in the December 1 civic polls.

He also exuded confidence that Hyderabad would have a BJP Mayor after the GHMC polls and that the saffron party would form the government in Telangana after the next Assembly elections.
