Kim open to another summit with Trump, with conditions

PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said he is open to a third summit with President Donald Trump, but set the year’s end as a deadline for Washington to offer mutually acceptable terms for an agreement to salvage the high-stakes nuclear diplomacy, the state-run media said Saturday.

N. Korea convenes top-level meeting over 'tense situation'

10 Apr 2019; AFP: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called a full meeting Wednesday of a top committee of the ruling Workers' Party to address what he described as the "prevailing tense situation", state media reported.

The gathering of the Central Committee comes after Kim's Hanoi summit with US President Donald Trump broke up without agreement in February, and as South Korean President Moon Jae-in flies to Washington for talks with the US leader.

N. Korea calls for investigation into Madrid embassy "terrorist" attack

TOKYO (AP) — North Korea said Sunday it wants an investigation into a raid on its embassy in Spain last month, calling it a “grave terrorist attack” and an act of extortion that violates international law.

The incident occurred ahead of President Donald Trump’s second summit with leader Kim Jong Un in Hanoi on Feb. 27-28. A mysterious group calling for the overthrow of the North Korean regime has claimed responsibility.

North Koreans go to polls

PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) — Millions of North Korean voters, including leader Kim Jong Un, went to the polls on Sunday to elect a new lineup of roughly 700 members for the next session of the national legislature, though the vote was more of an endorsement than a competitive contest.

Voters were presented with just one state-sanctioned candidate per seat and cast their ballots not to select but rather to show their approval or, at least theoretically, disapproval of that candidate.

DPRK blasts joint military exercise by South Korea, U.S.

PYONGYANG, March 7 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Thursday blasted South Korea and the United States for holding a joint military exercise, saying it was a violation of summit agreements they reached with the DPRK last year.

It is a violent violation of the joint declarations and statements that the DPRK reached with the United States and South Korea last year, the official Korean Central News Agency said in a report.

UN: 11 million North Koreans need food

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — An estimated 11 million people in North Korea — over 43 percent of the population — are undernourished and “chronic food insecurity and malnutrition is widespread,” according to a U.N. report issued Wednesday.

The report by Tapan Mishra, the head of the U.N. office in North Korea, said that “widespread undernutrition threatens an entire generation of children, with one in five children stunted due to chronic undernutrition.”

Increased vehicle movement at NKorea’s ICBM center

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea’s military said Thursday it is carefully monitoring North Korean nuclear and missile facilities after the country’s spy agency told lawmakers that new activity was detected at a research center where the North is believed to build long-range missiles targeting the U.S. mainland.

North Korea rebuilding rocket test site: report

06 Mar 2019; DW: North Korea has started restoring part of a long-range rocket launch site it dismantled last year, according to a report published on Wednesday by Washington-based think tank 38 North.

Over 2,000 tonnes of wheat from Russia delivered to North Korea

PYONGYANG, March 4. /TASS/. A ship with humanitarian aid from Russia carrying more than 2,000 tonnes of wheat has arrived in the North Korean port of Chongjin, the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang reported on Facebook on Monday.

"Over the weekend, the staff of the Russian Consulate General in Chongjin visited the city port where a ceremony to receive humanitarian aid from Russia was held. Consul General Yuri Bochkarev inspected the cargo (2,092 tonnes of wheat), after which he climbed aboard the ship and talked with the captain and crew," the embassy said.
