PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) — Another week, another North Korean weapons test.

North Korea’s relentless, carefully calibrated barrage of firepower — Tuesday’s test was its eighth since late July — has managed to normalize a martial display of defiance that not too long ago raised fears of war in one of the most dangerous corners of the world.

N. Korea says it would be ‘miscalculation’ if U.S. confronts Pyongyang with sanctions

SEOUL, Aug 23 (NNN-YONHAP) — North Korea said Friday it would be a “miscalculation” if the United States tries to confront Pyongyang with sanctions, urging it to drop its hostile stance.

In a statement, North Korea’s Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho also warned that Pyongyang will remain “the biggest threat” to Washington for a long time should the U.S. stick to a hostile stance.

UK gov is monitoring the situation in Kashmir closely; calls for calm

London, Aug 6 (PTI) The UK government on Tuesday said that it was monitoring the situation in Kashmir closely and called for calm as the country's parliamentarians echoed some of the wider divisions over the India's decision to revoke Article 370 and bifurcate the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Indian government on Monday revoked Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and proposed that the state be bifurcated into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

US, S.Korea lack 'political will' on peace talks: KCNA

06 August 2019; AFP: North Korea on Tuesday said US-South Korean war games are a "flagrant violation" of efforts to reach peace on the Korean peninsula and reflect a lack of "political will" to improve relations.

The comments by an unnamed North Korean foreign ministry spokesman, carried by state news agency KCNA, came as Pyongyang fired two "unidentified projectiles" off its eastern coast, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

North Korea frees Russian fishing boat: Moscow

28 July 2019; DW: The vessel was detained more than a week ago after Pyongyang accused the crew of entering its territorial waters. Fifteen Russians and two South Korean nationals were on board.

North Korea has released a Russian fishing boat after it was detained for violating entry regulations, the Russian embassy in Pyongyang said on Sunday.

"At 19:30, the vessel left the Wonsan port's pier and headed to Sokcho (South Korea), where two South Korean crewmembers will come ashore," it said.

Pyongyang's firing of projectiles triggers concern from Seoul, Washington

PYONGYANG, July 26 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has fired two projectiles on Thursday, promoting expressions of concern from Seoul and Washington.

In a report released Friday, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said the DPRK move a day earlier was meant as a warning to South Korea as Seoul is trying to introduce advanced weapons to the peninsula and making preparations for military drills, in disregard of repeated expressions of opposition by Pyongyang.

22 July 2019; AFP: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un voted in nationwide local elections on Sunday that registered the near 100 percent turnout claimed for every ballot held in the nuclear-armed state.

Given the absence of any competition among candidates, elections in the North are essentially a political ritual which, observers say, allows the authorities to claim a popular mandate while reinforcing loyalty to Kim's regime.

North Korea suggests it might lift weapons test moratorium

PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) — North Korea on Tuesday suggested it might call off its 20-month suspension of nuclear and missile tests because of summertime U.S.-South Korean military drills that the North calls preparation for an eventual invasion.

The statement by the North’s Foreign Ministry comes during a general deadlock in nuclear talks, but after an extraordinary meeting of the U.S. and North Korean leaders at the Korean border that raised hopes that negotiations would soon resume.

The comments ramp up pressure on the United States ahead of any new talks.
