Saudi Arabia imposes $2,665 fine on Hajj pilgrims without a permit

30 June 2022; MEMO: Saudi Arabia has announced that it will impose a $2,665 (10,000 riyals) fine against pilgrims attempting to perform the Hajj without a permit.

Yesterday the Public Security spokesperson, Brigadier General Sami Al-Shuwairekh, said that pilgrims must obtain a Hajj permit from the relevant authorities before attempting to undertake the pilgrimage, a fundamental pillar of the faith.

US, Saudi, Egypt and Israel officials negotiating over deal for transfer of Red Sea islands

Amnesty demands Egypt reverse unfair death sentences following mass trial

30 June 2022; MEMO: Amnesty International has called on the Egyptian authorities to abolish "unfair" sentences issued on Tuesday against 163 people, including ten people who were handed the death penalty, saying the sentences were "unfair" while the procedure was "marred by cases of enforced disappearance and torture, including of children".

Commenting on the sentences, Amna Guellali, Amnesty International's deputy director for the Middle East and North Africa, said: "Today's verdict is an insult to justice."

4 killed as thousands demand civilian rule in Sudan

30 June 2022; MEMO: Four protesters were killed in protests, Thursday, demanding the reversal of a military take-over in Sudan and a return to civilian rule, according to a local medical group, Anadolu News Agency reports.

The fatalities occurred as security forces used violence against protesters in Omdurman, the Central Committee of the Sudanese Doctors said in a statement.

It said dozens of demonstrators were also injured.

2 Palestinians run over then detained by Israel soldiers

30 June 2022; MEMO: Two Palestinians drivers were run over and detained yesterday by Israeli occupation officers who hit them with their vehicle near the town of Al-Khader to the south of occupied Bethlehem, reported Wafa news agency.

Local eyewitnesses said Israeli officers hit the Palestinians, who were riding on their motorcycle. The pair, from the Dheisheh Refugee Camp, suffered severe injuries.

Shell to sign deal with Qatar on $29 billion gas project

30 June 2022; MEMO: British Shell is set to sign a major agreement with Qatar by taking a stake in a $29 billion project to boost Qatar's exports of liquefied natural gas, just as Europe races to shore up new supplies of the fuel, Bloomberg reports.

According to the report, the move comes just as Europe races to shore up new supplies of the fuel.

Israel PM Bennett hands over seat to Lapid

30 June 2022; MEMO: Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett handed over the premiership to his coalition partner Yair Lapid today, following the dissolution of the Knesset.

A handover ceremony was held between Bennett and Lapid at the prime minister's office in West Jerusalem, the Prime Minister's Press Office said in a statement.

Prime ministerial staff, senior officials and Bennett and Lapid's family members attended the ceremony.

China Donated 100 Commuter Buses To Help Syrians In Economic Woes

DAMASCUS, Jun 30 (NNN-SANA) – Syria, yesterday, received the second batch of 100 commuter buses, donated by China, as part of the Chinese efforts to help improve the livelihood of Syrians, during the difficult times the country is going through.

Chinese Ambassador to Syria, Feng Biao and Syrian Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Hussein Makhlouf, attended the delivery ceremony in the capital, Damascus, during which they signed the delivery note and took a short tour in one of the new buses.

Bahrain, Egypt Stressed Two-State Solution As Imperative For Palestinian-Israeli Conflict

MANAMA, Jun 30 (NNN-BNA) – Bahraini King, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, met yesterday, with visiting Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, where they stressed the two-state solution as an imperative one to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The two leaders said, in a joint communique that, it is important to return to “serious and effective negotiations” to achieve peace “in accordance with the principle of the two-state solution,” which “guarantees the Palestinian people their right to establish their independent state, on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

Iraq Called On Int’l Community To Help It Fight Climate Change

BAGHDAD, Jun 30 (NNN-NINA) – The Iraqi Environment Ministry, yesterday, called on the international community, to help Iraq meet the challenges of climate change.

“The Iraqi people went through difficult political and economic conditions, during the past decades. It is expected that climate change will exacerbate the sufferings,” Environment Minister, Jassim Al-Falahi, was quoted as saying.

Al-Falahi pointed out that, the needed international support will help Iraq adapt to climate change, in the context of economic change.
