Iran, Syria in new phase of comprehensive cooperation: Amir-Abdollahian

02 July 2022; Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Saturday at noon arrived in the Syrian capital Damascus for talks with high-ranking Syrian officials and was welcomed at the airport by the country’s top diplomat Faisal Mikdad.

Upon his arrival in Damascus, the Iranian foreign minister outlined to journalists the goals of his trip to Syria at a news conference along with Mikdad.

UN condemns protesters’ storming of Libya’s parliament

CAIRO (AP) — A senior U.N. official for Libya on Saturday condemned the storming of the parliament’s headquarters in the east of the oil-rich country as part of protests in several cities the previous day against the political class and deteriorating economic conditions.

Hundreds of protesters marched in the streets of the capital, Tripoli, and other Libyan cities on Friday, with many attacking and setting fire to government buildings, including the House of Representatives in the eastern city of Tobruk.

Hamas Welcomed UN Report That Called For Lifting Of Israeli Siege On Gaza

GAZA, Jul 2 (NNN-WAFA) – The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), yesterday, welcomed a UN report, that called for the immediate ending of the siege, that Israel has been imposing on the Gaza Strip since 2007.

On Thursday, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), said in a report that, the situation in the Gaza Strip “is catastrophic,” due to a siege that has been imposed on the coastal enclave for 15 years.

Iraq Exported 101 Million Barrels Of Crude Oil In June

BAGHDAD, Jul 2 (NNN-NINA) – Iraq exported 101.19 million barrels of crude oil in Jun, bringing in revenues worth 11.5 billion U.S. dollars, said the Iraqi Oil Ministry, yesterday.

The average price for crude oil in Jun was 113.7 dollars per barrel, according to a ministry statement, citing statistics from the State Organisation for Marketing of Oil.

Israel says it shot down Hezbollah drones headed for gas rig

JERUSALEM, July 2 (Reuters) - Israel said it had shot down three drones headed from Lebanon toward one of its Mediterranean gas rigs on Saturday and accused the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group of launching them.

There was no immediate response from Lebanon to the Israeli allegation, which came amid tensions between the countries over the location of the Karish rig and long-standing but so-far fruitless U.S.-mediated efforts to agree on a maritime border.

Five killed, 49 injured as three quakes rock southern Iran

TEHRAN, July 2 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed and another 49 injured as three earthquakes measuring above magnitude 6 shook Iran's southern Hormuzgan province early on Saturday, the Fars news agency quoted an emergency official as saying.

The first 6.1-magnitude quake occurred at a depth of 10 km at 2:02 a.m. local time (2132 GMT Friday), followed by two strong quakes of up to 6.3 magnitude a few hours later. Many aftershocks with a magnitude of above four have also been registered.

UAE ports group buys 70% stake in Egypt cargo and terminal operator

01 July 2022; MEMO: The UAE's AD Ports Group today announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire a 70 per cent equity stake in an Egyptian container shipping company, WAM reported.

The total purchase consideration of this transaction amounts to 514 million dirhams ($140 million). The acquisition will be fully funded from AD Ports Group's existing cash reserves and is the first international acquisition by the UAE group.

Erdogan: Sweden pledged to extradite 73 terrorists

01 July 2022; MEMO: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said yesterday that Sweden has pledged to extradite 73 Turkish nationals wanted by Ankara on terror charges in return for Turkiye's support for the Nordic country's bid to become a member of NATO.

Speaking at a news conference in Madrid at the end of a NATO summit, Erdogan said Turkiye will closely follow up on the implementation of the issues contained in the trilateral accord signed with Sweden and Finland.

Israel's 'terrorism' smear dismissed as EU resumes funding for Palestinian NGO

01 July 2022; MEMO: The European Union (EU) has resumed funding to two prominent Palestinian human rights groups, more than a year after suspending support for six Palestinian organisations labelled terrorists by Israel.

Indicating that the Israeli claims are baseless, the European Commission – the EU's executive branch – sent letters to Al-Haq and the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR). The two organisations were informed that their 13-month-long suspensions were lifted unconditionally and with immediate effect.
