Naxal commander nabbed by security forces in Jharkhand

New Delhi, May 20 (PTI) Security forces on Wednesday nabbed a naxal commander in Jharkhand's Chatra district along with an AK series assault rifle and over 100 rounds of ammunition, officials said.

Nauku Gaulu, a sub-zonal commander of the Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), was nabbed during a search operation in the Tikulia-Lawalong area of the district, they said.

The operation was led by the 190th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force along with the state police.

India: PLFI militant killed in Jharkhand's Simdega

Simdega (Jharkhand), May 17 (PTI) An ultra of the banned Peoples Liberation Front of India (PLFI) was killed and another injured on Sunday in a gunbattle with the police in Jharkhand's Simdega district, officials said.

The gunbattle happened near Bendochuan village in the Jaldega police station area.

The ultra was killed on the spot, while another has been admitted to a hospital with bullet injuries, Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar told reporters.

An AK-47 rifle was among the weapons seized from the spot, he said.

India: BJP MLA surrenders in extortion case

Dhanbad (Jharkhand), May 11 (PTI) BJP MLA Dhulu Mahto, who is facing various charges including extortion, on Monday surrendered before the Dhanbad chief judicial magistrate who remanded him to 14 days' judicial custody.

Mahto was absconding since February 19 when police raided his house at Barora area in Dhanbad in connection with the cases.

Accompanied by his advocate S N Mukherjee, the legislator reached the residence of the CJM, Sangita, as courts are closed due to lockdown.

India: ThreeNaxal terrorists gunned down in encounter in Jharkhand

Chaibasa, Apr 4 (PTI) Three Maoists were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district on Saturday, a senior police officer said here.

Acting on a tip-off that members of the banned CPI (Maoist) had gathered in the forest near Chirungreda village, a joint team of the CRPF and district police force rushed to the area, Superintendent of Police Indrajeet Mahata said.

India: Minor girl accuses friend, 8 others of rape

Dumka (Jharkhand), Mar 26 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl has alleged that nine persons raped her in Dumka district, after a friend misguided her to take a shortcut through a jungle, a police officer said on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police Y S Ramesh said raids have been conducted to nab the culprits after the girl, who is currently hospitalised, filed a complaint with the police against the friend and eight others who are not known to her.

India: Man gets 20-years in jail for raping girl

Simdega (Jharkhand), Feb 27 (PTI) A Simdega court has sentenced a man to 20-years in jail for raping a 17-year-old girl in Simdega district in 2018.

Additional District Judge Madhuresh Kumar Verma on Wednesday sentenced 42-year-old Vinod Gupta after finding him guilty of raping the girl under Pocso Act and various IPC sections.

Dhanbad (Jharkhand)/Bengaluru, Jan 10 (PTI) An accused wanted in the killing of activist-journalist Gauri Lankesh over two years ago has been arrested in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand, the police said on Friday.

Personnel of the Karnatka Special Investigation Team, set up to probe the killing that triggered a national outrage, arrested Rishikesh Dewerkar alias Rajesh, from Katras town, about 30 km from here, on Thursday evening, Dhanbad senior Superintendent of Police Kisor Kaushal told reporters.

India: Trade unions call for nationwide strike on Jan 8

Dhanbad (Jharkhand), Dec 26 (PTI) A front of national trade unions on Thursday called for a countrywide strike on January 8 in protest against "anti-labour" and "anti-industry" policies of the BJP-led central government, a trade union leader said.

A K Jha, general secretary of the Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Sangh (RCMS), a constituent unit of the INTUC, said the decision was taken at a meeting of recognised central trade unions here.
