India: Extortion case lodged against BJP MLA Dhulu Mahto

Dhanbad, Aug 3 (PTI) Police on Tuesday lodged an FIR against 13 persons including BJP MLA Dhulu Mahto in Barora police station for allegedly demanding extortion money from a construction company.

Barora police station officer in-charge Neeraj Kumar said that on written complain of Modern Enterprises Company manager Reyaz Kureshi an FIR under IPC Sections 341/ 387/ 504/ 506 has been lodged against Dhulu Mahto and 12 other persons.

India: Wanted naxal killed by security forces in Jharkhand

Ranchi/New Delhi, Jul 15 (PTI) A 45-year-old Maoist carrying a reward of Rs 15 lakh has been killed by the security forces in the jungles of Jharkhand's Gumla district on Thursday, officials said.

Budeshwar Oraon alias Lulha was neutralised after a "fierce encounter" between an armed naxal squad and the security forces led by the 209th battalion of the CoBRA, they said.

The Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) is a special jungle warfare unit of the CRPF.

India: J'khand govt waives Rs 980 cr loan of 2.46L farmers

Ranchi, Jun 17 (PTI) The Jharkhand government on Thursday said it has waived off loans worth Rs 980 crore of 2.46 lakh farmers in the state so far and is committed to their welfare.

Chief minister Hemant Soren on completion of one-year of his government on December 29 last year had officially announced the farm loan waiver scheme.

In the first phase, the government has decided to waive farm loans up to Rs 50,000.

India: Police arrests six members of banned outfit PLFI in Jharkhand

Chaibasa, May 1 (PTI) Police on Saturday arrested six members of the banned outfit PLFI from Jharkhand's Chaibasa district and recovered arms and ammunition from them, an officer said.

On a tip-off police raided Horogada village and arrested the members of the banned outfit, a police spokesperson from Chaibasa said.

The police recovered a country made carbine with bullets from their possession besides mobile phones and pamphlets.

India: J'khand HC grants bail to Lalu; release from jail expected Monday

Ranchi, Apr 17 (PTI) The Jharkhand High Court on Saturday granted bail to RJD president Lalu Prasad in the Dumka treasury case of the multi-crore rupees fodder scam on completion of half the sentence period, paving way for his release from jail.

The bail order was given by Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh.

India: 'unconstitutional harassment' by Centre, Jharkhand devising resource generation plan: CM Soren

Ranchi, Mar 7 (PTI) Alleging "unconstitutional harassment" by the Centre over funds, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said pushed to the brink, the state is now devising its own innovative resource generation mechanism for self-sustenance.

Alleging unequal treatment, the chief minister of the JMM-led alliance in the state said tribal-rich state has been all along exploited and plundered.

Soren was sworn in as the 11th chief minister of the state in December 2019.

India: 3 security personnel killed by a Naxal-triggered IED blast

Ranchi, Mar 4 (PTI) Three security personnel were killed and two injured in a Naxal-triggered IED blast in the forests of Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district on Thursday, officials said.

Three men of the special unit of the state police, Jharkhand Jaguars, were killed in the improvised explosive device (IED) blast that took place around 8:45 AM in Hoyahatu village under Toklo police station area of the district.

A jawan of the Jharkhand Jaguars and a Central Reserve Police Force personnel from its 197th battalion were injured in the blast, they said.

India: Jharkhand health worker dies after receiving COVID vaccine

Ranchi, Feb 3 (PTI) A health worker has died 36 hours after being administered COVID vaccine in Jharkhand, officials said on Wednesday.

The health worker, identified as Mannu Pahan, was administered the Covishield vaccine at his workplace Medanta Hospital here on February 1 and he died on Tuesday night, the private medical establishment's CEO Dr Pankaj Sahni said.

India: 3 Naxal terrorists arrested in Jharkhand

Hazaribag (Jharkhand), Dec 26 (PTI) Three Naxals belonging to the banned Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) outfit were arrested in Jharkhand's Hazaribag district on Saturday, police said.

The arrested Naxals include the outfit's self-styled 'sub-zonal commander' Durga Bedia and 'area commander' Rakesh Ganju alias Abhishek Ji, they said.

India: Terrorist PLFI commander gunned down in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Dec 21 (PTI) A regional commander of the outlawed Peoples' Liberation Front of India (PLFI), wanted by the police for involvement in over 100 criminal cases, was on Monday killed in a gunbattle with security forces in Jharkhand's Khuti district.

Jidan Gudiya, who carried a reward of Rs 15 lakh on his head, was gunned down in a joint operation by the state police and the CRPF in the forests of Koyangsar in the district, Inspector General of Police Saket Kumar Singh told PTI.
