India: Opposition alliance in Jharkhand leads in 43 seats, BJP in 27

Ranchi, Dec 23 (PTI) The opposition JMM-Congress-RJD alliance in Jharkhand is leading in 43 out of the 81 seats of state Assembly till 10.45 am on Monday, while the ruling BJP is ahead in 27 seats.

The JMM is leading in 25 seats while its alliance partner Congress is ahead in 11 and the RJD in five.

The JVM(P) is leading in four seats while the AJSU Party in ahead in three and the BSP in two constituencies.

India: Soren in soup over his remarks on saffron robes

Pakur/Ranchi, Dec 19 (PTI) The Jharkhand Mukti Morchas (JMM) working president Hemant Soren has stoked a huge controversy after he alleged that people wearing saffron robes were robbing women of honour with the BJP hitting back with a complaint with the Election Commission.

Addressing an election rally in Pakur constituency on Wednesday, the former chief minister further alleged that "a rapist in Uttar Pradesh is resting in hospital while his victim is in jail".

India: Temple in Ayodhya to come up within four months: Shah

Pakur (Jharkhand), Dec 16 (PTI) BJP president Amit Shah on Monday said a grand Ram temple would come up in Ayodhya within four months as per the wishes of Indians all over the world.

Shah asked Congress leader Kapil Sibal why he sought to drag the Ram Janmabhoomi case in the Supreme Court.

"Congress leader and advocate Kapil Sibal sahab said, 'abhi mat chalaye case, baad mein chalaye. Keon bhai, aap ke pet mein kyon dard hai' (take up the case latter, why do you have a stomach ache following the case)," Shah asked Sibal.

India: Two girls sexually abused in Jharkhand, one dies

Chatra (Jharkhand), Dec 13 (PTI) Two minor girls were allegedly sexually and physically abused in Jharkhand's Chatra district, with one of them succumbing to her injuries and the condition of the other being serious, police said on Friday.

One person has been arrested over the incident, a police officer said.

India: Will waive farm loans if oppn alliance comes to power in Jharkhand: Rahul Gandhi

Rajmahal (J'khand), Dec 12 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday promised to waive farm loan up to Rs 2 lakh in Jharkhand, if the opposition alliance is voted to power.

Addressing a poll meeting here, in support of JMM candidate Ketubbudin Sheikh, Gandhi said farmers would receive a minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 2,500 for every quintal of paddy, if the Cong-JMM-RJD coalition wins majority.

India: Court sentences man to 10-years in jail for raping girl

Ramgarh (Jharkhand), Dec 8 (PTI) A local court has sentenced a 25-year-old man to 10-years rigorous imprisonment for raping a 16-year-old girl in Ramgarh district two years ago.

Additional District Judge Sanjay Prasad Singh had convicted Ranglal Mahto under the Special Pocso Act on November 30 for raping the girl, Additional Public Prosecutor, S K Shukla said.

The judge imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Mahto while announcing the quantum of punishment on Saturday.

Shah sets 2024 deadline for NRC, says all infiltrators to be expelled by then

Chakradharpur/Baharagora, Dec 2 (PTI) BJP chief Amit Shah on Monday set a 2024 deadline for implementing the hugely divisive NRC across the country, asserting "each and every" infiltrator will be identified and expelled before the next general election.

India: Campaigning ends for first-phase polling in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Nov 28 (PTI) Curtains came down Thursday on campaigning in Jharkhand for the first phase of polling to be held on Saturday in 13 assembly constituencies.

A total of 37,83,055 voters of Chatra (SC), Gumla (ST), Bishunpur (ST), Lohardaga (ST), Manika (SC), Latehar (SC), Panki, Daltonganj, Bishrampur, Chhatarpur (SC), Hussainabad, Garhwa and Bhawanathpur constituencies will decide the fate of 189 candidates in the first phase.

Voting will take place across 3,906 polling stations, out of which 989 will have webcasting facilities, an Election Commission release said.
