OIC hails UN vote on Israel’s occupation of Palestine

31 Dec 2022; AA: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Saturday welcomed the passage of a UN General Assembly resolution seeking opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Israel’s occupation of Palestine.

In a statement, the pan-Muslim group hailed the stances of the countries that backed the resolution which "affirm their commitment to the international law and in line with their historical stances" towards supporting Palestinian cause.

Qatar condemns Israel's plan to expand settlements in occupied West Bank

31 Dec 2022; MEMO: Qatar's Foreign Ministry on Friday condemned the new Israeli government's plans to expand settlements in the occupied West Bank and its "attempts to Judaise" Jerusalem.

In a statement, Qatar expressed: "Its strong condemnation and denunciation of the Israeli government's plans for settlement expansion and its continued attempts to Judaise Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa Mosque."

UN passes resolution to seek ICJ opinion on Israel's occupation of Palestine

31 Dec 2022; MEMO: The UN General Assembly on Saturday passed a resolution seeking opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the legal consequences of Israel's illegal occupation of Palestinian territories, Anadolu reports.

The resolution was backed by 87 countries of the UN General Assembly members against 26 with 53 abstentions.

Adani takes control of NDTV, buys promoters' stake at 17 pc premium to open offer price, Roys resign

New Delhi, Dec 30 (PTI) Adani group on Friday gained full control of news broadcaster NDTV after it acquired most of the stake of founders, Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy, at a premium of almost 17 per cent over the rate it paid to minority shareholders of the firm.

The Adani Group now holds 64.71 per cent of New Delhi Television Ltd (NDTV), according to a regulatory filing.

Israel: Over 100 ex-diplomats fear Netanyahu gov't will harm foreign ties

30 Dec 2022; MEMO: More than 100 former and retired Israeli diplomats have sent a letter to the new Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, warning him that his government's extremist policies will harm Israel's foreign relations.

The letter came as Netanyahu's government was officially sworn in yesterday.

2022 saw highest number of journalist killed in the past four years

30 Dec 2022; MEMO: Nearly 1,700 journalists have been killed across the world over the past 20 years, an average of more than 80 a year, according to a report published by Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

The years since 2003 have been described as the "especially deadly decades", with 2022 leading with the highest number of deaths in the past four years.
