Egypt 'regrets' UN criticism of its human rights conditions

18 Mar 2021; MEMO: Egypt has announced that it regrets the issuance of the joint declaration criticising the human rights situation in Egypt during the 46th Session of the UN Human Rights Council.

Egypt's Permanent Mission to the UN has stated that it "regrets" "the crude politicisation and "unjustified escalation" in the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Israel to displace 1,550 Palestinian to build park in Jerusalem

18 Mar 2021; MEMO: More than 100 Palestinian homes face demolition and about 1,550 residents, including more than 800 children, will be made homeless at the hands of Israel's Jerusalem Municipality, Arab48 reported yesterday.

This comes as the Israeli municipality cancelled all agreements with the Palestinian residents of the Silwan neighbourhood.

According to Haaretz, Nasser Nawaj'ah was detained at a military checkpoint between Sussya and Yatta last week while on his way to visit his wife's grandfather, who was hospitalised.

Violent extremists pose ‘elevated threat’ to US: Officials

WASHINGTON (AP) — Violent extremists motivated by a range of political grievances and racial biases pose an “elevated threat” to the United States, officials said Wednesday in an unclassified intelligence report released more than two months after a mob of insurrectionists stormed the U.S. Capitol.

The blunt assessment echoes warnings made in recent weeks by U.S. officials, including FBI Director Christopher Wray, who testified this month that the threat from domestic violent extremism was “metastasizing” across the country.

India: Minor Dalit girl kidnapped & raped in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Mar 16 (PTI) A 12-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped in a village under Reoti police station area here, police said on Tuesday.

The girl was allegedly kidnapped by a man on Monday and raped, Superintendent of Police Vipin Tada said.

On the complaint of the girl's mother, an FIR was filed against the accused and he was arrested on Tuesday, the SP said.

The girl has been sent for a medical examination and further investigations are on, the SP added.
