Israel to demolish Palestinian homes in Ni'lin

01 June 2021; MEMO: Israel's occupation authorities issued demolition orders on Monday for ten Palestinian houses in the villages of Ni'lin and Deir Qaddis, west of the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, Wafa news agency has reported. According to a local Palestinian official, the owners of the homes have legal building permits issued by the Palestinian Authority.

Egypt delegation in Gaza to discuss reconstruction, ceasefire

The head of Egyptian intelligence, Abbas Kamel, and his accompanying delegation arrived in the Gaza Strip yesterday afternoon to hold talks on the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.

Entering through the Beit Hanoun (Erez) checkpoint in the northern Gaza Strip, the delegation was received by the head of the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip, Yahya Sinwar, and the movement's leadership.

This is Kamel's first visit to Gaza since he took office in 2018.

France Presse agency AFP fires Palestinian journalist in West Bank

01 June 2021; MEMO: Agence France Presse (AFP) has sacked its Palestinian correspondent in the West Bank, the journalist's union said yesterday. Nasser Abu Baker lost his job apparently after the agency came under "Israeli diktats", said the Syndicate of Palestinian Journalists.

India: Woman hacked to death by husband in Raj

Jaipur, May 31 (PTI) A woman was hacked to death allegedly by her husband in Rajasthan's Banswara district on Sunday night, police said.

The accused, Shaymlal, is absconding, SHO, Arthuna police station, Gajveer Singh said.

"Shaymlal hit his wife Alka, aged around 23 years, with an axe leaving her dead on the spot. The couple had a minor son," he said.

"The reason behind the murder is not clear and the matter is being probed. The postmortem of the body is being conducted," the SHO added.

Israeli army arrests 9 Palestinians in West Bank raids

30 May 2021; MEMO: Israeli forces rounded up nine Palestinians in overnight raids across the occupied West Bank, according to a local NGO on Sunday, reports Anadolu Agency.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) said the arrests took place in the cities of Jenin, Ramallah, Bethlehem, Hebron, and East Jerusalem.

"At least 45 Palestinians have been detained by the Israeli army in the West Bank since Friday," the NGO added in a statement.

Arab League welcomes UN commission to probe Israel's violations

30 May 2021; MEMO: The Arab League on Sunday welcomed the UN Human Rights Council's resolution to create an international commission to investigate Israel's violations against the Palestinians, reports Anadolu Agency.

In a statement, the Cairo-based Arab League said the resolution comes "in the light of the [Israeli] ethnic cleansing in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, Silwan neighborhood, and the aggression on Gaza".

US sells off Iranian crude oil seized off coast of UAE

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The U.S. has sold some 2 million barrels of Iranian crude oil after seizing an oil tanker off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, court documents and government statistics show.

The Iranian crude oil showed up in new figures released over the weekend by the U.S. Energy Information Agency, raising the eyebrows of commodities traders as Tehran remains targeted by a series of American sanctions. The EIA figures included just over 1 million barrels of Iranian “crude oil imports” in March.

India: Six more COVID victims bodies found floating in Ganga in UP

Fatehpur (UP), May 31 (PTI) Six more bodies of suspected COVID-19 victims were found floating in the Ganga in Uttar Pradesh, an official said on Monday.

Fatehpur Sadar Tehsil Sub-Collector (SDM) Pramod Jha said he was informed about the bodies floating in the river on Sunday morning, following which a search operation was launched.

Six decomposed bodies were recovered from the river, he said.

Qatar sees no reason for normalising ties with Syria, says foreign minister

30 May 2021; MEMO: Qatar has no plans to normalise ties with Syria, the Gulf state's foreign minister said, after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad won a fourth term in office last week in an election derided by the opposition and the West as a farce, reports Reuters.
