India: Farmers hold protest against BJP in Patiala

Chandigarh, Jul 11 (PTI) A group of farmers protesting against the Centre's farm laws on Sunday chased away a local BJP leader and allegedly manhandled him during a protest against the party at Rajpura in Punjab's Patiala district.

The BJP's Punjab unit general secretary, Subhash Sharma, and party workers were later in the evening not allowed to come out of a house as scores of farmers laid siege.

Protesting farmers had gathered outside the venue of the BJP's local leaders and workers' meeting in Rajpura and started raising slogans against them.

Turkey marks 26th anniversary of Srebrenica genocide

11 July 2021; MEMO: Turkey on Sunday marked the 26th anniversary of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide, in which over 8,000 Bosnian civilians were brutally killed by Serbian forces.

Vice President Fuat Oktay on Twitter quoted the statement of Alija Izetbegovic, independent Bosnia's first president: "Whatever you do, don't forget the genocide. Because the forgotten genocide is repeated."

India: Stan Swamy's death in custody can't be jusitified: Raut

Mumbai, Jul 11 (PTI) Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday said the death of Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case accused Jesuit priest Stan Swamy in custody cannot be justified even if Maoists are "more dangerous than Kashmiri separatists".

In his weekly column Rokhthok in the party mouthpiece 'Saamana', Raut wondered whether India's foundation was so weak that an 84-year-old man could can wage a war against it, and said being critical of an incumbent government doesn't mean being against the country.

India: UP population draft bill: Those with over two kids can't contest local polls, apply for govt jobs

Lucknow, Jul 10 (PTI) According to a draft of the proposed population control bill, anyone violating two-child policy in Uttar Pradesh will be debarred from contesting local bodies elections, from applying for or getting promotion in government jobs, and receiving any kind of government subsidy.

The Uttar Pradesh State Law Commission (UPSLC) states that the provisions are part of the draft titled The Uttar Pradesh Population (Control, Stabilization and Welfare) Bill, 2021.

Palestinians in Israel chant 'Jerusalem is red line' during flag march

10 July 2021; MEMO: Hundreds of Palestinians in Israel took part in a Palestine Flag March organised on Friday in the city of Umm Al-Fahm in Israel, Arab48.com reported.

The Palestine Flag March was organised by young Palestinians and sponsored by Palestinian factions and public figures in Israel.

The Palestinian flag was raised during the march by Palestinians wearing the Palestinian keffiyeh chanting anti-Israeli occupation slogans.

Among the chanted slogans was: "Jerusalem is a red line."

Palestinian-American Christians urge Biden to reconsider Hamas policy

10 July 2021; MEMO: A letter sent by Palestinian-American Christians has asked US President Joe Biden to reconsider his policy towards Hamas, stressing that it is not a terrorist group, but a freely-elected movement.

The letter was sent to Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken by the Palestinian Christian Alliance for Peace (PCAP). It came following remarks made by Blinken in Ramallah on 25 May.

Russia offers six-month extension of Idlib border crossing, but US demands a year

09 July 2021; MEMO: Russia has proposed extending the opening of the last humanitarian border crossing into north-west Syria by six months, in a potential compromise move. The United States, however, is demanding a one year extension.

The Bab Al-Hawa crossing on the Turkish-Syrian border remains operational until tomorrow. UN and diplomatic sources have informed AFP that Russia submitted a draft resolution to the other 14 member states of the UN Security Council yesterday.

Israel destroys West Bank home of detained US citizen

09 July 2021; MEMO: Israeli forces have demolished the family home of Palestinian-American Montaser Shalabi, who was accused of being involved in a shooting that killed one Israeli and injured two others. Shalabi was indicted in an Israeli military court in the occupied West Bank in May when Israeli student Yehuda Guetta was shot dead.

Israel expels former Palestinian prisoners from occupied Jerusalem

09 July 2021; MEMO: The Israeli occupation forces have handed four former Palestinian prisoners expulsion orders from the city of Jerusalem for terms of between three and six months. The orders also ban the individuals from having any contact with a number of people and activists.
