Amnesty calls on Egypt to probe 'extrajudicial executions' seen in army video

06 Aug 2021; MEMO: Amnesty International yesterday called on Egypt to investigate a propaganda video released by the Egyptian army showing people being shot dead during a security operation in North Sinai.

"The Egyptian Public Prosecutor must urgently investigate what appear to be extrajudicial executions by members of the military in North Sinai," Amnesty said in a statement.

US State Department calls on Israel not to evict Sheikh Jarrah families

06 Aug 2021; MEMO: The US State Department has urged Israel to refrain from evicting Palestinian families from the Sheikh Jarrah area of occupied East Jerusalem. Nevertheless, spokesman Ned Price told reporters on Thursday that the department believes that the proposal offered by an Israeli court this week is a matter for the Israeli and Palestinian parties to consider.

Israel carries out 3 large-scale demolitions in the West Bank

05 Aug 2021; MEMO: Israeli forces yesterday carried out three large-scale demolitions in different areas of the occupied West Bank.

The head of the Palestinian Committee Against the Wall and Settlements in Bethlehem, Hassan Breija, said an Israeli army bulldozer demolished five agricultural structures in the Shaab Sultan area in the town of Wadi Rahal, south of the governorate.

Egypt: Ex-presidential candidate Aboul Fotouh faces 5 terrorism charges

05 Aug 2021; MEMO: Egypt's State Security Prosecution has accused former presidential candidate Abdul Moneim Aboul Fotouh of ties to a terror group and spreading fake news, lawyer Khaled Ali revealed yesterday.

Taking to Facebook, Ali wrote that the hearing held for Aboul Fotouh, the head of the Strong Egypt Party, lasted five hours.

Aboul Fotouh was arrested in February 2018 upon his return to Cairo from London. The lawyer was investigated on the case 440/2018, which links him to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood.

Israel asks US to pressure Sheikh Jarrah families to pay rent to settlers

05 Aug 2021; MEMO: Israeli officials have asked the US administration of President Joe Biden to put pressure on the Palestinian families of Sheikh Jarrah to accept the court's proposal that they pay rent to settler organisations in return for becoming 'protected tenants', Haaretz reported yesterday.
