India: Haryana Home Minister discharged from hospital after recovering from Covid

Chandigarh, Aug 31 (PTI) Haryana Home and Health Minister Anil Vij was discharged from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research here on Tuesday, 10 days after he was admitted as his oxygen levels had dropped.

Immediately after being discharged, the 68-year-old BJP leader attended office at the Haryana Civil Secretariat here.

At the PGIMER, Vij was under the supervision of doctors led by a pulmonary and respiratory medicine specialist.

He had contracted COVID-19 last year and was hospitalised for nearly a month then.

India sends tow Medical Oxygen Plants to Bangladesh

New Delhi, Aug 31 (PTI) India has sent a consignment of medical supplies to Bangladesh to help the country in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic, officials said on Tuesday.

The Indian Navy's offshore patrol vessel INS Savitri is carrying the supplies to Bangladesh and it is expected to reach the country on Thursday.

India: Raj Congress claims infighting in state BJP

Jaipur, Aug 31 (PTI) The Rajasthan Congress on Tuesday claimed that the opposition BJP is getting weakened in the state due to infighting, triggering a sharp reaction from the saffron party.

The BJP leaders are fighting among themselves and the people are watching this, the Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra said.

Instead of pointing out any shortcomings in the government schemes and programmes, they are fighting among themselves. I do not think that the BJP will be able to stand on its feet in future, he added.

India: Netherlands ambassador meets UP CM in Lucknow

Lucknow, Aug 31 (PTI) Netherlands Ambassador to India Marten van den Berg paid a courtesy call on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence here on Tuesday, an official statement said.

Discussions were held to further strengthen the relations between India and the Netherlands, it said.

During the meeting, Adityanath asserted that the two countries have strong relations and are working together in many areas.

India: Man arrested for killing pregnant wife over dowry in UP

Gorakhpur, Aug 31 (PTI) A man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly killing his seven-month pregnant wife in a village in Maharajganj district over dowry, police said.

The incident took place in Bhagwatnagar village under the Farenda police station area on Monday night, and a case was registered based on a complaint by the victim's father, they said.

India: Girl abducted, raped in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Sep 1 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and raped by a man in a village here, police said on Wednesday.

The girl was abducted on August 25 by a man identified as Sultan, SHO, Sukhpura, Gagan Raj Singh said.

According to the girl, Sultan allegedly raped her and freed her on August 30 after which she reached home,

The victim's father had earlier lodged an FIR alleging that his daughter was abducted. Rape charges were included later.

Peaceful, stable Afghanistan vitally important for Pakistan, region: PM

ISLAMABAD, Aug 31 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday underscored that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was vitally important for Pakistan and the region.

He stressed that at this pivotal moment in Afghanistan’s history, it was important for the international community to remain in support and solidarity with the Afghan people.

The Prime Minister was talking to German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, who called on him here.

During the meeting views were exchanged on the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan-Germany bilateral relations.

India: SC directs demolition of Supertech Emerald's twin 40-storey towers in NOIDA

New Delhi, Aug 31 (PTI) The Supreme Court Tuesday directed demolition of twin 40-storey towers of Supertech's Emerald Court project in NOIDA here for violation of building by-laws.

The apex court directed that the entire amount of home buyers be refunded with 12 per cent interest from the time of the booking and the Residents Welfare Association be paid Rs 2 crore for the harassment caused due to the construction of the twin towers.

India: Tata Motors launches Tigor EV with price starting at Rs 11.99 lakh (1,199,000)

New Delhi, Aug 31 (PTI) Tata Motors on Tuesday launched its second electric vehicle -- Tigor EV, catering to the personal segment in the domestic market, priced between Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 13.14 lakh (ex-showroom).

The model comes in three variants, priced at Rs 11.99 lakh, Rs 12.49 lakh and Rs 12.99 lakh. A dual tone top-end trim is tagged at Rs 13.14 lakh.

The auto major has already achieved success with its first electric model, Nexon EV and now commences deliveries of Tigor EV from around 150 sales outlets in 70 cities across the country.

US troops' stay in Pakistan only temporary: Pak Interior Min

Islamabad, Aug 31 (PTI) Pakistan on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of allowing the long-term presence of US troops coming from Afghanistan in Islamabad, saying the American forces' stay in the country would be for a limited period.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad's response came after pictures of US troops at Islamabad airport circulated on social media, sparking rumours about a possible long-term presence of American forces on Pakistani soil.
