Mohammed Kaleem Siddiqui on Thursday, quashed an externment order passed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, 'A' Division, Ahmedabad City, noting that a citizen can't be subjected to externment for raising his grievance against the Government.

India: Some BJP leaders hand in glove with coal mafia: Mamata

Kolkata, Aug 28 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday slammed the BJP-led government at the Centre for allegedly letting loose central agencies on her nephew and TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in a coal scam case, claiming that some BJP ministers were working hand in glove with coal mafia.

She also accused the Narendra Modi government of trying to "bulldoze the federal structure" of the country and snatching away rights of the states.

India: Man gets 10 years RI for raping minor girl in Odisha

Phulbani , Aug 27 (PTI) A court in Odisha's Kandhamal district has sentenced a 32-year-old man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2014.

Balliguda Additional district judge Bhaskar Chandra Sahu Thursday convicted the man and sentenced him to jail for 10 years.

The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict.

According to the prosecution, the man who hails from Balliguda had called the girl, a resident of a nearby village, to work with him in a field.

India: Rise in COVID cases; Kerala reimposes Sunday lockdown

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 27 (PTI) The Kerala government on Friday decided to continue with Sunday lockdown in view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the state.

The government, facing flak from opposition and public health experts for alleged poor COVID-19 management in the state, tonight issued an order in this regard.

It said lockdown shall be in force on Sundays, with only limited permissible activities.

India: Bridge over Sarsaiyya ghat to cost Rs 400 Crore

Kanpur: Though there is a delay of five long years in giving a signal to the bridge project over the Sarsaiyya Ghat extending up to the Trans-Ganga city on another edge.

According to the available news reports, the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation has eventually transferred the funds worth ₹57.90 lakhs to the Bridge Corporation authorities for the project.

This primary amount for drafting the detailed project report, feasibility report and soil report will be ably used, officials said.

News of more blasts in Kabul baseless, Taliban

KABUL, Aug 27 (APP): Taliban on Friday termed the news of more blasts in Kabul city as baseless and said only two explosions had taken place outside Hamid Karzai International Airport on Thursday.

In a statement Taliban said the law and order situation was under control and a number of Taliban security personnel around the airport had been increased.

All possible treatment facilities to the injured of the yesterday’s blasts were being provided, it added.

The investigations were in process and Taliban leadership was reviewing the situation.

India: Kanpur Mayor flays Uddhav Thackeray over his words

Kanpur: Mayor and BJP leader Pramila Pandey have filed an FIR (First Information Report) against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for his alleged remarks on Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath.

She also said her culture does not allow similar comments against Uddhav Thackeray but if he dares to come to Uttar Pradesh then people in the state will teach him a lesson.

This controversy has erupted over Maharashtra CM's alleged remarks against UP CM in the year 2018. He had reportedly let out that he felt like 'hitting Yogi Adityanath with chappals'.
