Kabul airport attack kills 60 Afghans, 13 US troops

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Two suicide bombers and gunmen attacked crowds of Afghans flocking to Kabul’s airport Thursday, transforming a scene of desperation into one of horror in the waning days of an airlift for those fleeing the Taliban takeover. The attacks killed at least 60 Afghans and 13 U.S. troops, Afghan and U.S. officials said.

Denmark lauds Pakistan’s ‘rapid, efficient & broad assistance’ on airlifts from Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, Aug 26 (APP): Denmark on Thursday said that without Pakistan’s “rapid, efficient and broad assistance”, the success of joint operations for evacuations and airlifts from Afghanistan would not have been possible.

​“In the situation evolving in Afghanistan, we are deeply grateful for the professional assistance and outstanding support to enable airlifts of vulnerable persons to Islamabad International Airport for their continued journey,” State Secretary of Denmark Steen Hommel said as he met Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood in Islamabad.

Kanpur: The National Institute of Disaster Management and the SUTRA model of IIT-K claimed that the Odisha may report only around 2,000 cases given the current scenario of vaccination.

Deputy Director of IIT-Kanpur Prof Manindra Agrawal said that Odisha has vaccinated more people than the national average.

If the current pace of vaccination continues and all restrictions are lifted, the cases are likely to expand gradually in September and October respectively.

India's COVID-19 recovery rate improves to 97.63 pct

NEW DELHI, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in India Thursday increased to 97.63 percent, the country's federal health ministry said, with 31,788,440 patients having been cured.

According to the health ministry, the constant increase in recoveries has ensured the reduction in actual caseload as the country has been witnessing a continuous fall in active cases.

India: Youth arrested in UP for raping minor girl

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Aug 26 (PTI) A youth has been arrested here for allegedly abducting a girl and raping her, police said on Thursday.

On the basis of a complaint filed by the 16-year-old girl's family, a case was registered against the youth. They alleged that the youth raped the girl on Wednesday, a police official said.

The girl has been sent for medical examination. The accused has been arrested, he said.

Yahoo shuts down its news sites business in India

New Delhi, Aug 26 (PTI) Yahoo has shut down its news websites in India due the new foreign direct investment (FDI) rules that limit foreign ownership of media companies that operate and publish digital content in India.

This includes Yahoo News, Yahoo Cricket, Finance, Entertainment and MAKERS India. This, however, will not affect users' Yahoo e-mail, and search experiences in India.

India: Farmers' national convention to mark 9 months of protest

New Delhi, Aug 26 (PTI) The national convention by farmers to mark completion of nine months of their agitation against the three contentious farm laws began at the Singhu border on Thursday.

The two-day-event that will see participation from 1,500 delegates across organisations of farmers, women, youth, and labourers, is aimed at intensification and expansion of the ongoing movement against the Centre's farm laws.

India: Three die in city's building roof collapse at daybreak

Kanpur: Three persons were reportedly killed after a roof of a house collapsed in Kanpur on Thursday, the police said.

Talking to the media, Anoop Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), East Kanpur said that a woman, her son and daughter were declared dead by the doctors.

The roof of a house was collapsed early in the morning. The police reached the place of the incident.
