India: Pawar decries trolling of Muslim players after loss to Pakistan

Mumbai, Oct 29 (PTI) NCP chief and former ICC chairman Sharad Pawar on Friday described the trolling and abuse faced by some Indian players on social media after the loss to Pakistan in a T20 World Cup match as "indecent".

Some players, especially pacer Mohammad Shami, were targeted on social media following the loss.

It is my appeal to the so-called cricket lovers that they should refrain from discouraging players with such criticism," Pawar said during an event here.

India: UP Man held for kidnapping, raping minor in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Oct 30 (PTI) A 22-year-old man here has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor, police said Saturday.

The accused and the victim belong to different communities and are residents of the same village, they said.

The 14-year-old girl was allegedly abducted on October 20, they added.

On the complaint of her father, a case of kidnapping was filed against the man on October 25 at Phephna police station, Station House Officer (SHO) Sunil Chandra Tiwari said.

India: 15-yr-old girl raped by uncle in Punjab

Hoshiarpur (Pb), Oct 30 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her uncle in a village under Mahilpur Police Station here, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place in February this year but the victim revealed her ordeal to her mother after she became pregnant.

The accused identified as Jasbir Singh allegedly raped the victim when she was alone at home and her mother was away for work, police said, adding that he has been arrested.

Suicides rise by 10 pct across India during COVID-19 pandemic in 2020: report

NEW DELHI, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- A report released by India's National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) said suicides in the country showed an increase of 10 percent in 2020 amid the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the report released on Thursday, daily wage earners, the self-employed and housewives had the highest numbers among those who took their own lives.

"A total of 153,052 suicides were reported in the country during 2020 showing an increase of 10.0 percent in comparison to 2019," the report said.

India: Won't arrest Sameer Wankhede without giving prior notice: Maha govt to HC

Mumbai, Oct 28 (PTI) The Maharashtra government told the Bombay High Court on Thursday that it will not arrest NCB's zonal director Sameer Wankhede without giving him a prior notice of three working days, in connection with the allegations of extortion and corruption levelled against him.

Wankhede also moved the Bombay High Court on Thursday, seeking interim protection from arrest or any coercive action against him.

India: Adani Green Energy Q2 profit jumps nearly six-fold

New Delhi, Oct 28 (PTI) Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) on Thursday posted a nearly six-fold increase in consolidated net profit at Rs 100 crore in the September quarter on the back of higher revenues.

The net profit of the company was Rs 17 crore in the quarter ended on September 30, 2020, according to a BSE filing.

The company's total income stood at Rs 1,411 crore in the second quarter of the current fiscal as against Rs 718 crore in the same period a year ago.

India: Delhi Police starts removing barricades at Tikri border put up to stop farmers

New Delhi, Oct 28 (PTI) The Delhi Police on Thursday began removing barricades put up at the Tikri border where thousands of farmers are protesting against the Centre's three agri laws, a senior officer said.

Four out of the eight layers of barricades at Tikri border have been removed. However, the cement barricades are still there and the road remains closed for commuters, the officer said.

Thousands of farmers have been protesting at the three borders of the national capital against the contentious farm laws since November last year.
