India: Man helps his 5-month old wife reunite with lover

Kanpur: A man in Kanpur who was married five months ago, helped his wife to reunite with her boyfriend.

It seems to be replay of a 1999 film Hum Dil De Chukey Sanam. However, the only variation from the Hindi film story was that the woman decided to move with her lover.

Pankaj Sharma, who serves as an accountant in a Private Company in Harayana's Gurugram married Komal in May, this year. Pankaj told reporters that his wife Komal used to maintain distance from him since their marriage.

India, UK to launch global solar grid project at COP26

NEW DELHI (AP) — India and the U.K. will launch a project that aims to create a solar grid connecting countries in different parts of the world at the upcoming U.N. climate talks in Glasgow, Scotland.

The project, known as the “Green Grids Initiative,” is being initiated by the International Solar Alliance, which was launched by India and France at the 2015 Paris climate conference to promote solar energy. The U.K. and India agreed to join forces in the initiative in May this year.

Afghanistan: Taliban says failure to recognise their government could have global effects

KABUL, Oct 30 (Reuters) - The Taliban called on the United States and other countries on Saturday to recognise their government in Afghanistan, saying that a failure to do so and the continued freezing of Afghan funds abroad would lead to problems not only for the country but for the world.

No country has formally recognised the Taliban government since the insurgents took over the country in August, while billions of dollars in Afghan assets and funds abroad have also been frozen, even as the country faces severe economic and humanitarian crises.

Acting PM of Afghanistan's Taliban gov't meets Turkmen FM on ties

KABUL, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Acting Prime Minister of Afghanistan's Taliban government Mullah Hassan Akhund met with visiting Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov on Saturday, according to the General Directorate for Administrative Affairs of the President Office.

During the meeting the two sides discussed bilateral relations, humanitarian assistance, economic and transit cooperation and the international engagement with Afghanistan, it said in a statement.

India: Rahul Gandhi appears in Surat court in defamation case

Surat, Oct 29 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday appeared before a magistrate's court in Surat city of Gujarat to record his statement in connection with a criminal defamation case filed against him over his remark on the "Modi surname".

This was the third time the Congress MP appeared before the court in connection with the 2019 case.

The court had on October 26 directed Gandhi to appear before it between 3 pm and 6 pm on October 29 to record his statement.

India: Man held for raping teenage girl in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Oct 29 (PTI) A man was arrested here for allegedly abducting and raping a teenage girl, police said on Friday.

The girl was abducted by one Sonu Singh of her village on October 24. She was taken to Ballia and Kanpur, and raped, police said.

On the complaint of the victim's mother, an FIR was registered against Singh under relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act.

The accused was arrested and the girl sent for a medical examination. A probe is on into the matter.

India: Godrej Group headed for family split

New Delhi, Oct 29 (PTI) The USD 4.1 billion Godrej Group, spanning from soaps and home appliances to real estate, is headed for a split between the brothers, sources aware of the matter said, citing external advice the family has sought for an amicable division of the 124-year-old conglomerate.

At present, the group is led by veteran industrialist Adi Godrej (79), who is its chairman. His brother Nadir Godrej is the chairman of Godrej Industries as well as Godrej Agrovet.

India: Serum Institute seeks DCGI nod for Covid vaccine Covovax

New Delhi, Oct 29 (PTI) The Serum Institute of India on Friday sought permission from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) to manufacture COVID-19 vaccine Covovax for restricted use in emergency situations at its Manjari manufacturing site, official sources said.

The company has submitted interim phase 2/3 clinical study report on Indian adults, the interim report of Novavax UK and USA-Mexico phase-3 clinical study and response to the queries raised by the DCGI office, along with its application.

India: Man held for posing as Union minister

Bareilly (UP), Oct 29 (PTI) A clerk of a school here was arrested on Friday for impersonating as a union minister and calling the SSP to favour a man in a property case, police said.

Niresh Verma, who called the SSP to favour Lotan Singh in the case involving a dispute over a plot, posed as Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar.

The accused had allegedly taken Rs 20 lakh from Singh to help him, police said.

A luxury car with "Bharat Sarkar" written on it was recovered from the accused.

India's first manned ocean mission 'Samudrayan' launched

Chennai, Oct 29 (PTI) India's first manned ocean mission 'Samudrayan' was launched here on Friday by Union Minister Jitendra Singh and with this the nation joined an elite club of nations having such underwater vehicles for carrying out subsea activities.

The nation has made huge progress in science and technology and when an Indian goes up into space as part of the Gaganyaan programme, another would dive deep into the ocean, the Minister said.
