India: Ear wax cleaners roam on road even today

Kanpur: It is quite surprising that the presence of traditional ear cleaners has not out and out come to an end. When available doctors are treating ear-related problems, there appears little need for traditional ear cleaners. However, their practice continues.

It is often wondered how do people agree to sit by the traditional ear cleaners? Do they not think that the traditional style of ear wax cleaning can harm them?

Several show natural aversion to this way of cleaning the ears. And the fact is that clearly, a big ratio of the people avoid them. 

India: War rooms to fight with air pollution in Kanpur & other districts

Kanpur: UP Govt has decided to set up war rooms to fight with air pollution menace in Kanpur and other cities.

The new infrastructure will be managed by the Road Dust Management. It will keep a check on various sources of pollution.

According to the reports, similar war rooms will also be set up in NCR districts to improve the overall air quality in UP.

The onset of winter only spells more trouble for the cities. The mercury dip along with high moisture content, the rise of smog and emission of greenhouse gases are factors that worsen the air quality.

India: Dalit woman raped in UP's Bhadohi

Bhadohi (UP), Oct 26 (PTI) A teenage boy accused of raping a 21-year-old woman after beating her in a Bhadohi district village has been arrested, police said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Monday evening when the woman had gone out to relieve herself, Durgaganj police station's SHO Ram Darash Ram said.

The youth first beat up the Dalit woman and then raped her, the SHO said, adding the accused left after threatening that he would kill all her family members if she disclosed the incident to them.

India ranked 9th in VC funding for climate tech: Report

New Delhi, Oct 26 (PTI) India ranks at the ninth spot globally for climate tech investment, with the country's climate tech firms receiving USD 1 billion in venture capital funding between 2016 and 2021, according to a report released on Tuesday.

Venture capital (VC) investment in climate technology companies has gone up globally since 2016, as per the report jointly prepared by international trade promotion agency London & Partners and Amsterdam-based database management company Dealroom.co.

India: Cong welcomes SC order on Israeli Pegasus spyware matter

New Delhi, Oct 27 (PTI) The Congress on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court order of setting up an expert committee on the Pegasus spyware issue, and said it has negated alleged attempts of the government to evade and divert attention in the name of national security.

"Pseudo-Nationalism is the last refuge of cowardly fascists everywhere," Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said on Twitter.

Kanpur: The water level at ghats has gone up due to rains in Uttarakhand. We are informing people not to go near the stairs of ghats, said Arpita Singh, Ghat Supervisor.

Amid torrential rains, the state of Uttarakhand has witnessed flooded roads, landslides, and overflowing rivers. This natural fury leaves people stranded on various places.

India: Zika virus patient family members and close contacts test negative

Kanpur: All the samples of family members and close contacts of the Zika virus patient  have reported to be tested negative.

The health department had collected samples of 22 other persons who are either family members or close contacts of the patient. However, they have all been tested negative.

The commissioner, Raj Shekhar, had interacted with the family members of the infected person and took details of the case, travel history and those of close contacts.

India: Kanpur Metro trial completes at depot test track

Kanpur: The Kanpur Metro conducted its first trial run along the depot test track in recent days. This was ahead of the RDSO trials slated next month.

Reportedly, the brand new three-coach train of the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation fleet covered a total of 3,900 meters by completing three laps of the 650-meters-long test track.

The testing of the train concluded on a positive note. The train started chugging down the track at the pace of 10-15 km/per hour. It stroked the speed of 30 kms/hour ultimately.

India: Prashant Kumar made Kanpur's new Inspector General of Police

Kanpur: Prashant Kumar has been made the new Inspector General of Police here.

According to the official release, Mohit Agarwal, IGP, Kanpur has been sent to Lucknow as IGP, (Technical Services).

The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has transferred around 12 Indian Police Service officers.

Those IPS officers who were posted in the districts for a long time have been given new postings.
