Afghanistan: Taliban's reclusive supreme leader appears, belying rumours of his death

KABUL, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Taliban's reclusive supreme leader, Haibatullah Akhundzada, made a rare public appearance in the southern city of Kandahar, Taliban sources said on Sunday, belying widespread rumours of his death.

Akhundzada, known as the leader of the faithful or Amir ul Momineen, had not been seen in public even after the Taliban's August takeover of the country, giving rise to the speculation.

India bans firecrackers in districts near capital before Diwali

NEW DELHI, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in the northern Indian state of Haryana on Sunday banned the sale and use of firecrackers in 14 districts near the capital, New Delhi, days ahead of the festival of Diwali.

The local government cited rulings of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Supreme Court in support of the move. It noted that setting off firecrackers can adversely affect the respiratory health of vulnerable groups, besides aggravating the health condition of COVID-19 positive people in home isolation.

India: Once teachers, students used to focus on study, they care little now

Kanpur: No children or young boy care of giving more time at the examinations, as they should need to care of.

They give less time to study and remain active in whiling away their precious time in play.

Taking the case of three respective boys who are studying in three different classes viz., 5th 8th, & 10th at a good school here, it can be discerned that their interest in the study is inconsequential.

They either do not open books or find out a good knowledge of dodging their parents.

India: Shah Rukh Khan fans cheer as Aryan returns home

Mumbai, Oct 30 (PTI) It was the homecoming of their "prince" Aryan Khan and superstar Shah Rukh Khan's fans made sure to make it special as they thronged in larger numbers outside the actor's bungalow here, celebrating with music, dance and firecrackers.

Aryan walked out of the Arthur Road prison after 22 days in the central Mumbai facility following his arrest during a drug raid on a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast.

India: Price rise is pricking people, says Dharmendra Pradhan

Kanpur: Amid a sharp rise in the prices of petrol and diesel across the country, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that Centre is concerned about the issue of inflation and assured that the government will control it in time.

"Inflation is pricking people. Everybody is concerned including the government. The Centre will control this inflation in time," said the minister while speaking to reporters in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur on Saturday.

Pradhan said that India India imports 80 per cent of petroleum products which has led to an increase in the prices.

India: BJD to protest across Odisha against Central gov over price rise

Bhubaneswar, Oct 30 (PTI) The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha Saturday announced a series of protests across the state targeting the BJP-led Central government over the spiralling rise in the prices of fuel and other essential commodities.

This was announced by party spokespersons and senior MLAs- P K Deb, Atanu S Nayak and Pramila Mallick - at a press meet here.

India: Jain spiritual leader hangs self in Indore

Indore, Oct 30 (PTI) A 45-year-old Jain spiritual leader allegedly committed suicide on Saturday in Madhya Pradesh's Indore, police said.

The body of Vimad Sagar Maharaj (45) was found hanging in a Jain 'dharamshala' in Nandanagar, though no suicide note was found from the spot, Pardeshipura police station in charge Pankaj Dwivedi said.

A probe to find out why he took this extreme step was underway, he added.

India: Naxal outfit PLFI's commander held in Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 30 (PTI) The Delhi Police has arrested a commander of the naxal outfit People's Liberation Front of India from Dhaula Kuan area here, officials said on Saturday.

The accused has been identified as Anurag Ram alias Anurag Sadlohar alias Dhalbir, they said. The police received information that the commander of the naxal outfit was hiding in Delhi.

Ram had been evading arrest after escaping from a lock-up inside Jashpur district court in Chhattisgarh, they said.

India navy receives first P15B guided-missile destroyer

New Delhi, Oct 30 (PTI) The Navy received its first P15B stealth guided-missile destroyer from Mazgaon Dock Shipbuilders on Thursday, an official statement said on Saturday.

The construction and delivery of this ship -- named "Visakhapatnam" -- is another testament of impetus given by the government and the Navy to the indigenous warship construction programmes, it said.

A guided-missile destroyer has the capability to launch guided anti-aircraft missiles from its deck.

India: Now tally of Zika cases goes up to four in Kanpur

Kanpur: Three more people, all of them Indian Air Force personnel, have tested positive for the Zika virus in Kanpur, raising the tally to four.

The District Magistrate, Vishakh G. has confirmed this,

"With the three news cases, the tally is now four in the city."

The first case of the virus was also confirmed in an IAF personnel on October 23.

However, the 22 persons, including the family members, relatives and close contacts of the first case had tested negative for the virus.
