India: RBI lifts restrictions on Diners Club International

Mumbai, Nov 9 (PTI) The Reserve Bank on Tuesday lifted restrictions on Diners Club International and allowed it to onboard new domestic customers.

The restrictions have been lifted with immediate effect, the central bank said in a statement.

The RBI had on April 23, 2021, imposed restrictions on Diners Club International Ltd from onboarding new domestic customers onto its card network from May 1, 2021, for non-compliance with the norms on Storage of Payment System Data.

India: Punjab Cabinet accepts resignation of AG Deol

Chandigarh, Nov 9 (PTI) The Punjab Cabinet has accepted the resignation of Advocate General A P S Deol and the post left vacant by him will be filled by Wednesday, said Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi here.

State Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has been pushing for the replacement of Deol, who had represented former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini in cases related to the 2015 desecration incidents and police firing on protesters.

Addressing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Channi said the AG had resigned a few days ago.

India, Israel ink 'innovation agreement'

New Delhi, Nov 9 (PTI) In reflection of their growing defence ties, India and Israel on Tuesday sealed an agreement to jointly develop next-generation technologies and products such as drones, robotics, artificial intelligence and quantum computing, officials said.

The Bilateral Innovation Agreement (BIA) was firmed up between Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Israel's Directorate of Defence Research and Development (DDR&D).

Delhi's air quality 'severe' again

New Delhi, Nov 9 (PTI) Delhi's air quality slipped to the "severe" category again on Tuesday with stubble burning accounting for 27 per cent of its PM2.5 pollution, authorities said.

Low temperature -- Delhi recorded a minimum of 13.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, the season's lowest so far -- allowed accumulation of pollutants, said Mahesh Palawat, vice president (meteorology and climate change), Skymet Weather.

The minimum temperature is expected to dip to 10 degrees by November 15, the India Meteorological Department said.

India: MDL delivers fourth Scorpene submarine to Navy

Mumbai, Nov 9 (PTI) Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) delivered a fourth Scorpene submarine under Project P-75 to the Indian Navy on Tuesday, an official statement said.

Christened 'Vela', the submarine was launched on May 6, 2019, and has completed all major harbour and sea trials including weapon and sensor trials despite COVID-19-induced restrictions, the Navy said.

India: Poverty-stricken woman sells newborn son in Maha

Thane, Nov 10 (PTI) Struck by extreme poverty, a 32-year-old woman from Shirdi town in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district allegedly sold her three-day-old son to a man in Mumbai for Rs 1.78 lakh, police said here on Wednesday.

Police have detained the woman, the man who bought the child, and four others who helped the woman in the crime, as per an FIR registered on November 7 at Manpada police station in Dombivli town here.

India: Naxals kill police informer in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Nov 10 (PTI) A 20-year-old police informer, who had also helped in the setting up of a police camp, was killed by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, a senior official said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday night when Umesh Markam, who was working as 'Gopniya Sainik' (secret police informer), was coming from his native Tetam village under Katekalyan police station limits to Dantewada town, he said.

09 Nov 2021; MEMO: US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has called on America to stop enabling the killing of Palestinian children by Israel. Her call follows the killing of a 13-year-old Palestinian boy by the Israeli army on Friday.

Tlaib is the first Palestinian-American woman elected to Congress. She condemned the killing of Mohammed Da'adas, a resident of the Askar refugee camp in Nablus, in the occupied West Bank.
