India: Channi, Sidhu meet amid tension in Punjab Congress

Chandigarh, Nov 8 (PTI) AICC Punjab affairs in-charge Harish Chaudhary on Monday held a meeting with Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Congress state unit president Navjot Singh Sidhu, amid unease between the two leaders over government appointments.

The meeting was held just a few hours after Sidhu called a press conference and questioned his party's government in the state over the status of investigation into the 2015 Kotkapura police firing incident.

India: Three little children die in a village of Pilibhit

Kanpur: Three children aged 3,4 and 5 years have died at Baraatbhoj village in Pilibhit district.

Veerpal's younger son, Naresh, 3, died of fever. His nephew Govind, 4, also fell ill and was taken to a private hospital in Bareilly where he died during treatment the next day. On Saturday evening, Veerpal's daughter Laxmi, 5 years, suddenly suffered a seizure after drinking milk. She also died within a few minutes. A team of health officials sent Laxmi's body for autopsy.

The other two children's bodies had been cremated soon after their death.

India: Kanpur turns out to be hotspot of mosquito-borne infection

Kanpur: This district has become a hotspot for the mosquito-borne disease.

An alert has been sounded in the city and a massive vector control drive has also been launched by the local authorities to curb the spread.

Health teams have collected samples of 525 people who were in close contact with the infected people and living in the radius of 3 km of the IAF station hangars for testing.

The first case of the virus was reported in the Kanpur city on October 23 when a warrant officer of the IAF tested positive for the infection.

India’s NSA Summit; an abortive attempt to undo “spoiler” image

ISLAMABAD, Nov 7 (APP): Having faced strategic losses in Afghanistan after US withdrawal, India plans to host the NSA-level summit in New Delhi next week, which the analysts believe, was nothing but an attempt to cover up its image of “spoiler” and try to enhance its relevance in the region.

Being well-cognizant of India’s true face and negative role in the region particularly in Afghanistan, a key regional stakeholder Pakistan had already declined India’s invitation to be part of the summit.

Fire Kills 10, Injures Seven In West India’s Hospital

MUMBAI, Nov 7 (NNN-PTI) – At least 10 people were killed and seven others critically injured, after a major fire broke out at a ward, dedicated for COVID-19 patients, in a hospital in India’s western state of Maharashtra yesterday.

Rajendra Bhosale, district collector of Ahmednagar, 255 km from Mumbai in Maharashtra, confirmed that 10 people had died in the intensive care unit of the hospital, and preliminary enquiry indicated it could be a short circuit.

The fire has been brought under control by four fire tenders.

Road accidents kill 5 in N. Afghanistan

TALUQAN, Afghanistan, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- A total of five people were killed and two others wounded in road accidents in the two northern Afghan provinces of Takhar and Badakhshan, sources confirmed Sunday.

In Takhar province, three Taliban security forces members were killed and two others wounded when a pick-up truck veered off a road in Chal district on Sunday morning, Assadullah Hoshman at the district hospital told Xinhua.

Turkey reopens 10 girls schools in Afghanistan

06 Nov 2021; MEMO: Turkey has reopened ten girls-only schools in Afghanistan, following talks with the Taliban to increase opportunity for women in the country.

During a parliamentary meeting on Friday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced that ten out of the 14 girls-only schools run by the Maarif Foundation – a Turkish state-funded organisation which runs 80 schools overall in the country – have been reopened.

Palestine: Gaza's sole power plant running out of fuel

06 Nov 2021; MEMO: The Gaza Strip's sole power plant is poised to stop working on Sunday morning as it is running out of fuel, according to the enclave's Energy and Natural Resources Authority, Anadolu reports.

The energy authority said Saturday the failure of the entry of Qatari fuel, which supplies the power station, into the blockaded Gaza since November 2 might mean Gaza will face a power outage by Sunday morning.

India: Muslim cattle trader shot dead in UP'Aligarh

Aligarh (UP), Nov 6 (PTI) A 35-year-old cattle trader was shot dead at point blank range in front of his three-year-old child at Marris Road here, police said on Saturday.

Kamal Khan, the victim, was on his way back home with his child after attending a wedding on Friday night. As he stopped his car to buy a bottle of water, a few men overtook him and pumped bullets into him even as bystanders could come to terms with the incident which took place under Civil Lines police station limits, police said, adding that the men seemed to be inebriated.
