India facing highest unemployment rate in 45 years, says Rahul Gandhi

Kollam, Sep 16 (PTI) India is facing the highest unemployment rate in the last 45 years and it was the duty of the Congress party to strengthen the future of the youth and bring positivity to the minds of youngsters in the country, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Friday.

Gandhi, who has embarked on the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra,' reached Neendakara in Kollam district today, the ninth day since he began his foot march on September 7.

China asks the US to return Afghanistan's foreign reserves to Kabul

15 Sep 2022; MEMO: China said, on Thursday, that the US-blocked Afghan foreign reserves should be returned immediately so that Afghanistan could utilise them independently, Anadolu News Agency reports.

"The frozen assets are life-saving money of Afghan people, which should be returned immediately, disposed of by Afghanistan independently, and used for the improvement of the livelihood and peaceful reconstruction," Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, said.

"Our cooperation in this area is steadily progressing in accordance with the new requirements," he told TASS in an interview. "We see in them many opportunities for expanding the practice of joint production and advanced research and development."

India Reported 5,108 New COVID-19 Cases

NEW DELHI, Sept 14 (NNN-PTI) – India recorded 5,108 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,510,057, showed the federal health ministry’s data, released today.

With the reporting of fresh cases, India’s active caseload currently stands at 45,749.

The country also logged 31 more COVID-19 related deaths, in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 528,216, since the beginning of the pandemic, the health ministry said.

India tells U.S. it is concerned about package for Pakistan F-16 jets

NEW DELHI, Sept 14 (Reuters) - India is concerned about a U.S. decision to provide a sustenance package for Pakistan's fleet of F-16 fighter aircraft, the Indian defence minister told his U.S. counterpart on Wednesday.

The U.S.-built aircraft are a critical part of the military arsenal of Pakistan, whose arch-rival India worries that the fleet could be used against it by its neighbour.

Sri Lanka to start agricultural modernization in 2023: president

COLOMBO, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe said Sri Lanka must start agricultural modernization in 2023 to feed its growing population and become a net exporter of food, the President's Media Division (PMD) said on Wednesday.

Wickremesinghe made the statement at a meeting of the Multi-Sector Combined Committee to ensure food security and nutrition.

He said agriculture can earn foreign exchange by enhancing production and competitiveness through the modernization of agriculture.

US sends 10 missions into flood-hit Pakistan with humanitarian aid: Pentagon

Washington, Sep 14 (PTI) The US has said it has flown 10 missions into Pakistan to deliver over one million pounds of critical humanitarian supplies and equipment to Pakistani people affected by the rain-triggered catastrophic flooding that has killed nearly 1,400 people, washed away about two million homes and destroyed over four million acres of farmland.

India: WPI inflation eases to 12.41 pc in Aug

New Delhi, Sep 14 (PTI) The wholesale price-based inflation eased for the third consecutive month in August to 12.41 per cent, on softening in prices of manufactured items, even as food items saw an uptick.

The Wholesale Price Index-based inflation was 13.93 per cent in July and 11.64 per cent in August last year.

August is the 17th consecutive month of double-digit wholesale price inflation (WPI).

Pakistan: PM to attend SCO summit in Uzbekistan on Sep 15-16

ISLAMABAD, Sep 13 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the annual meeting of the Council of Heads of State (CHS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) being held on September 1-16 in Uzbekistan’s city Samarkand.

“The prime Minister will be participating in the SCO-CHS on the invitation of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who would chair the meeting,” the Foreign Office said on Tuesday.

The leaders of SCO members and observer states as well as heads of SCO organizations and other special guests will attend the meeting.
