PM to participate in UNGA high-level debate; share Pakistan’s perspective on regional, global issues

ISLAMABAD, Sep 18 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will participate in the high-level debate of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York from 19-23 September.

The prime minister will address the UN General Assembly on 23 September. In focus will be the challenge faced by Pakistan in wake of the recent climate-induced catastrophic floods in the country.

He will outline concrete proposals for collectively tackling the existential threat posed by climate change.

Afghan Police Discovered Weapon Cache, Arrest Five In Eastern Kapisa Province

KABUL, Sept 18 (NNN-ANA) – Afghan police discovered a weapon cache and arrested five persons for keeping arms illegally, in the eastern Kapisa province, the Interior Ministry said, in a statement here, today.

During a cleanup operation yesterday, police personnel, besides discovering 21 stocks of assault rifles, including AK-47, also found and confiscated two sets of walkie-talkies, a few hand grenades, a laptop computer, and a number of ammunitions, the statement said.

UN: Exclusion of Afghan girls from high schools ‘shameful’

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The United Nations on Sunday called for Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers to reopen schools to girls in grades 7-12, calling the anniversary of their exclusion from high school “shameful.”

The U.N. said it is increasingly concerned that the policy, together with other restrictions on basic freedoms, will contribute to a deepening of the country’s economic crisis in the form of greater insecurity, poverty and isolation.

“This is a tragic, shameful, and entirely avoidable anniversary,” said Markus Potzel, acting head of the U.N. mission in Afghanistan.

Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif to consult his brother Nawaz Sharif on Army chief's appointment: Report

Islamabad, Sep 18 (PTI) Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will decide on the appointment of the next Army chief after discussing the matter with former premier Nawaz Sharif in London, according to a media report.

Nawaz Sharif, the elder brother of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has been living in London since November 2019 when he was allowed to go there for medical treatment but never returned. He served thrice as the prime minister of Pakistan and appointed at least four Army chiefs.

India: Man awarded life term for abducting, raping girl in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 17 (PTI) A special court in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for abducting and raping a 15-year-old girl.

Special POCSO court judge Mumtaz Ali also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convict.

On September 9, 2020, the girl was abducted from her house and raped for two days by the man, district government counsel Sanjay Chouhan said on Saturday.

After sexual assault, the convict had left the girl in a locality near her house, he said.

India: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan meets RSS chief

Thrissur, Sep 17 (PTI) Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan Saturday night met RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat here amid the brewing discontent between the governor and the state's Left government.

The governor's office said Khan had a brief meeting with Bhagwat at around 8 PM.

The meeting took place at an RSS leader's house here.

Taliban, Pakistan forces clash at border over alleged building of military post

17 Sep 2022; MEMO: Clashes broke out between Afghanistan's Taliban and Pakistani forces this week on the border between the two nations, in an incident the Taliban claims was ignited by Pakistan building a military post.

The clashes took place on the border at Afghanistan's Paktia province and Pakistan's Kurram region earlier this week, reportedly leading to an unclear amount of casualties on both sides.

Indian PM releases cheetahs in Madhya Pradesh's Kuno national park

NEW DELHI, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday launched a cheetah reintroduction program in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, officials said.

Modi released the cheetahs that were brought from Namibia into enclosures at Madhya Pradesh's Kuno national park.

Television images show the prime minister releasing two cheetahs from enclosure number one and later the third from the second enclosure.
