India: Cong asks PM Modi to talk to agitating farmers

New Delhi, Sep 27 (PTI) As farmers across the country held protests as part of the Bharat Bandh, the Congress on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk to agitating farmers and listen to their legitimate grievances.

The Congress also alleged that instead of redressing the grievances of farmers, the government is trying to paint them as enemies of the country and that is why the farmers are protesting on the roads.

New Delhi, Sep 26 (PTI) With the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh increasing the purchasing price of sugarcane to Rs 350 per quintal, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said the BJP has "cheated" the sugarcane farmers in a big way as there has been only a marginal hike in the price under its rule while the input costs have gone up many times.

India: PM Modi launches Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

New Delhi, Sep 27 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission to provide a digital health ID to people which will contain their health records.

The pilot project of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission had been announced by the prime minister from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15, 2020.

Currently, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is being implemented in a pilot phase in six union territories.

India: Lawyers abstain from work a day after shootout at Delhi's Rohini court

New Delhi, Sep 25 (PTI) Lawyers abstained from work in all district courts in Delhi on Saturday, a day after jailed gangster Jitender Maan alias Gogi and his two assailants were killed in a shootout inside a courtroom in Rohini.

No work took place in the district courts, except urgent matters such as bail and custody extension, as the lawyers did not appear before judges, said Sanjeev Nasiar, the spokesperson of Coordination Committee of all District Courts Bar Associations in Delhi.

India: Cong backs Bharat Bandh called by agitating farmer unions

New Delhi, Sep 25 (PTI) The Congress on Saturday extended support to the Bharat Bandh call given by farmer unions against the Centre's three agri laws and demanded that discussions be initiated with the protesters.

Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh said the Congress party and all its workers will support the "peaceful Bharat Bandh on September 27, called by farmer unions and farmers".

India: AAP extends support to farmers call for Bharat Bandh

New Delhi, Sep 25 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party strongly supports the call for a Bharat Bandh issued by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha on September 27, party leader Raghav Chadha said on Saturday.

He said AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has always stood by the farmers against the "black laws".

"The Aam Aadmi Party and Arvind Kejriwal have always stood by the farmers against black laws. AAP strongly supports the call for a Bharat Bandh issued by the United Kisan Morcha on September 27," Chadha tweeted.

Indian PM Modi to bring back 157 antiquities handed over by US

New Delhi, Sep 25 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will bring home 157 artefacts and antiquities, which were handed over to India by the US during his visit, with both he and President Joe Biden expressing commitment to strengthening efforts to combat theft, illicit trade and trafficking of cultural objects.

While nearly half of the artefacts (71) are cultural, the other half consists of figurines related to Hinduism (60), Buddhism (16) and Jainism (9), an official statement said on Saturday.

India: Shubham Kumar tops civil services exam 2020: UPSC

New Delhi, Sep 24 (PTI) Shubham Kumar has topped the prestigious civil services examination 2020, results of which were declared by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Friday.

Jagrati Awasthi and Ankita Jain have got second and third ranks respectively.

A total of 761 candidates -- 545 men and 216 women -- have cleared the examination.
