New Delhi, Sep 17 (PTI) Australia on Friday said its decision to join a security alliance with the US and UK is aimed at developing capabilities that can contribute along with India and other countries in deterring behaviour that threatens the peace and security in the Indo-Pacific.

India: Tatas put in price bid for Air India

New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) Tata Sons -- the holding company of India's largest conglomerate -- on Wednesday submitted a financial bid to acquire loss-making state airline Air India.

Tuhin Kanta Pandey, secretary of the department that is running the privatisation process, tweeted of financial "bids" being received but did not say how many companies were in fray.

A Tata Sons spokesperson confirmed to PTI that the group has put in a bid for the national carrier.

India: Gadkari reviews progress of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

Sohna (Haryana), Sep 16 (PTI) Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday reviewed the progress of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (DME), that is expected to halve the commute time between the national capital and the financial hub from nearly 24 hours to 12 hours.

The 8-lane expressway will cover Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

Gadkari also said that to reduce traffic jam problem and air pollution problem in Delhi-NCR, the road ministry is working on 15 projects worth Rs 53,000 crore.

Delhi reported maximum rape cases, murders among metro cities in 2020

New Delhi, Sep 16 (PTI) Delhi accounted for nearly 40 per cent of all rape cases and almost 25 per cent murder cases among 19 metropolitan cities in India in 2020, according to latest government data

Altogether, 1,849 murder cases and 2,533 rape cases were reported across the country in 2020, a year that witnessed COVID-19 outbreak and lockdowns, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data showed

New Delhi, Sep 14 (PTI) In an apparent reference to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's 'abba jaan' remarks, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said what kind of a Yogi propagates hate.

The Uttar Pradesh chief minister's office hit back at Gandhi, saying in a tweet, "If bulldozing the empire of criminals and miscreants is hate, then this hatred will continue unabated."

Earlier, taking to Twitter, Gandhi posted, "Jo nafrat kare, woh yogi kaisa! (What kind of a Yogi propagates hate)."

Delhi riots: HC extends stay on Rs 25,000 costs imposed on Delhi Police for callous probe

New Delhi, Sep 13 (PTI) The Delhi High Court Monday extended the stay on Rs 25,000 costs imposed on the police by a trial court which had called the investigation in a case related to north-east Delhi riots "callous and farcical".

Justice Subramonium Prasad was informed by the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) S V Raju, representing Delhi Police, that they have not received the reply of complainant Mohammad Nasir in the matter.

India: EAM Jaishankar expected to visit Tajikistan this week

New Delhi, Sep 13 (PTI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is expected to travel to Tajikistan this week to attend a key meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on the situation in Afghanistan after its takeover by the Taliban, people familiar with the developments said on Monday.

Jaishankar is also likely to hold a series of bilateral meetings at Tajik capital city Dushanbe with his counterparts from Russia, Iran and Tajikistan among others, they said.

India: US Climate envoy Kerry meets EAM Jaishankar

New Delhi, Sep 13 (PTI) US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry on Monday met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and discussed issues relating to "climate action".

"Good to see @ClimateEnvoy John Kerry. Continued our discussions on climate action and climate justice," Jaishankar tweeted.

Kerry is on a two-day visit to India, ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasglow in November.

India: LJP MP Prince Paswan booked for rape

New Delhi, Sep 14 (PTI) Lok Janshakti Party MP Prince Paswan has been booked under rape charges by the Delhi Police, officials said on Tuesday.

A senior police officer said the case was registered on the direction of court.

"The court's direction came on Thursday and a case has been registered under relevant sections at the Connaught Place Police Station," the officer said.

Prince is a Member of Parliament from Samastipur in Bihar.
