India: Why are you silent on Lakhimpur incident: Sibal to Modi

New Delhi, Oct 8 (PTI) Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Friday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence over the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, and said just "one word of sympathy" was needed from him.

In a tweet, Sibal said, "Lakhimpur Kheri Horror. Modi ji, Why are you silent? We need just one word of sympathy from you. That should not be difficult!"

"Had you been in opposition how would you have reacted? Please tell us," the Rajya Sabha MP said.

India: Petrol, diesel price hiked again

New Delhi, Oct 8 (PTI) Petrol price on Friday was hiked by 30 paise a litre and diesel by 35 paise per litre as domestic fuel prices witnessed possibly the largest rally in rates.

The price of petrol in Delhi rose to its highest-ever level of Rs 103.54 a litre and to Rs 109.54 per litre in Mumbai, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

Diesel rates too touched a record high of Rs 92.12 in Delhi and inched closer to the Rs 100-a-litre mark in Mumbai. It currently costs Rs 99.92 a litre in Mumbai.

India: Delhi breathes its worst air from Nov 1 to 15 every year

New Delhi, Oct 7 (PTI) People in the national capital breathe the "worst" air between November 1 and November 15 every year, an analysis of data collated by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) over the last five years showed.

The capital's average PM2.5 level oscillates between very poor and severe categories from October 16 to February 15.

It records an average PM2.5 concentration of 285 micrograms per cubic metre from November 1 to November 15.

India: Ice cream parlours to attract 18 pc GST

New Delhi, Oct 6 (PTI) Ice creams sold by a parlour or such outlets will attract 18 per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST), the CBIC said on Wednesday.

In two sets of circulars, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) clarified on issues raised by trade and industry on rates changes related to 21 goods and services, the decision of which was taken at the 45th GST Council meeting on September 17.

India: SC to hear Lakhimpur Kheri killings matter on Thursday

New Delhi, Oct 6 (PTI) The Supreme Court has decided to hear on Thursday the Lakhimpur Kheri case of Uttar Pradesh in which eight people, including four farmers, were killed as violence erupted during a farmers' protest.

As per the cause list uploaded on the apex court website, a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli would hear the matter.

India: Not allowed to meet Priyanka Gandhi, says husband Vadra

New Delhi, Oct 6 (PTI) Robert Vadra on Wednesday claimed that he has been stopped from going to Lucknow to meet his wife and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who has been detained in Sitapur while on her way to meet victims of violence in Lakhimpur Kheri.

In a Facebook post, Vadra also said that he was "shocked" at the manner his wife has been "arrested".

India: Killing in Lakhimpur: Sibal urges SC to act

New Delhi, Oct 6 (PTI) Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Wednesday urged the Supreme Court to suo motu act on the Lakhimpur Kheri violence in which eight people, including four farmers, were killed.

"Supreme Court, there was a time when there was no YouTube, no social media, the Supreme Court acted suo motu on the basis of news in the print media. It heard the voice of the voiceless," Sibal said in a tweet.

India: Delhi unveils 10-point action plan to combat air pollution in winter

New Delhi, Oct 4 (PTI) To combat air pollution in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced a 10-point "winter action plan" that focuses on dust control, using the Pusa bio-decomposer, installing smog towers and checking waste burning and vehicular emissions.

He also urged the neighbouring states to retrofit thermal power plants in NCR areas with new technology and ensure the use of CNG-operated vehicles and cleaner fuel in industries in the region.

Indian Air Force committed to integration among armed forces

New Delhi, Oct 5 (PTI) The Indian Air Force is committed to the theaterisation programme and the initiative needs to be taken forward considering various key aspects involving the three forces, Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference ahead of Air Force Day on October 8, he said the IAF is fully prepared to deal with any security challenge in eastern Ladakh and that new infrastructure created by the Chinese side in the region will not affect India's combat readiness.
