India: Petrol, diesel prices surge to record-high levels

New Delhi, Oct 5 (PTI) Petrol and diesel prices on Tuesday surged to all-time high levels as rates were increased again after international oil prices hit the highest mark since 2014.

Petrol price was hiked by 25 paise a litre and diesel by 30 paise, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

This sent the petrol price in Delhi to its highest-ever level of Rs 102.64 a litre and to Rs 108.67 in Mumbai. Diesel rates too touched a record high of Rs 91.07 in Delhi and Rs 98.80 in Mumbai.

India: Priyanka leaves for Lakhimpur Kheri to meet farmers

Lucknow, Oct 3 (PTI) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has left for Lakhimpur Kheri, a Congress spokesperson said, after the party expressed apprehension that she may have been put under house arrest in Lucknow to prevent her from going there.

The Congress general secretary will meet the farmers injured in the violence that erupted during a protest over Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya's visit to Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday.

According to officials, eight people, including four farmers, were killed in the incident.

New Delhi, Oct 4 (PTI) The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Monday wrote to President Ram Nath Kovind, demanding that Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra be sacked in connection with the violence in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri.

Eight people were killed on Sunday as violence erupted during a farmers' protest in Lakhimpur Kheri, claiming the lives of both farmers and BJP workers ahead of a visit by UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.

New Delhi, Oct 2 (PTI) Petrol and diesel prices soared to new record highs across the country on Saturday after rates were hiked again by 25 paise and 30 paise a litre, respectively.

The price of petrol in Delhi rose to its highest ever level of Rs 102.14 a litre and to Rs 108.19 in Mumbai, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

Diesel rates too touched a record high of Rs 90.47 in Delhi and Rs 98.16 a litre in Mumbai.

India: Tata Sons top bidder for Air India: Sources

New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) Tata Sons has emerged as the top bidder for the takeover of debt-laden state-run airline Air India but the bid is yet to be approved by a group of ministers headed by Home Minister Amit Shah, sources said.

Financial bids put in by the salt-to-software conglomerate and SpiceJet promoter Ajay Singh were opened a few days back and were vetted by Core Group of Secretaries on Disinvestment headed by Cabinet Secretary on Wednesday, sources with knowledge of the matter said.

India: Govt hikes gas price by 62%; CNG rates may go up

New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) The government on Thursday hiked by 62 per cent the price of natural gas that is used to produce electricity, make fertilisers and turned into CNG to use as fuel in automobiles and cooking gas for household kitchens.

This is the first increase in rates since April 2019 and comes on back of firming benchmark international prices but does not reflect the spurt in spot or current price of liquefied natural gas (LNG) witnessed during the last couple of weeks.

India: Eight core sectors' output up 11.6 pc in August

New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) The output of eight core sectors grew by 11.6 per cent in August, mainly due to an uptick in the production of cement, coal, and natural gas, official data showed on Thursday.

The eight infrastructure sectors of coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity had contracted by 6.9 per cent in August 2020 due to the nationwide lockdown imposed to control the spread of COVID-19.

New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched the second phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation.

In line with the vision of the prime minister, SBM-U 2.0 and AMRUT 2.0 have been designed to realise the aspiration to make all cities garbage free and water secure, according to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO)

India: Abandoned newborn baby girl rescued from outer Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) A one-day old baby girl, who was allegedly abandoned in outer Delhi's Narela area, has been rescued, a DCW statement said on Thursday.

The commission said they received a call on Tuesday morning on its 181 women helpline and were informed that someone has thrown a one-day old baby girl in the bushes in Narela, and the child is lying there unattended.

The Commission informed the Delhi Police. A DCW team facilitated the rescue along with Delhi Police officials, the statement said.
