UN vote affirms Palestinian sovereignty over their natural resources

19 Nov 2021; MEMO: Some 157 UN member states yesterday voted in favor of a resolution affirming Palestinian sovereignty over their natural resources.

Seven countries – Canada, Israel, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Palau and the United States – voted against the motion, with 14 abstentions.

USA: White supremacist prison guards work with impunity in Fla.

(AP) --- In June, three Florida prison guards who boasted of being white supremacists beat, pepper sprayed and used a stun gun on an inmate who screamed “I can’t breathe!” at a prison near the Alabama border, according to a fellow inmate who reported it to the state.

The next day, the officers at Jackson Correctional Institution did it again to another inmate, the report filed with the Florida Department of Corrections’ Office of Inspector General stated.

Mexico sends some minors to US to get coronavirus vaccine

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Scores of Mexican adolescents were bused to California on Thursday to get vaccinated against the coronavirus as efforts get underway across Mexico to get shots in the arms of teens.

Mexico has resisted vaccinating minors ages 12 to 17, in part because the government focused on older adults believed to be more vulnerable. Mexico also has not had enough vaccine supply for most of its minors, who account for one-third of its population. The country this month is preparing to start vaccinating only teens ages 15-17.

USA: Defense attorneys rest their cases at Arbery death trial

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — Defense attorneys rested their case in the Ahmaud Arbery trial Thursday after calling just seven witnesses, including the shooter, who testified that Arbery did not threaten him in any way before he pointed his shotgun at the 25-year-old Black man.

Superior Court Judge Timothy Walmsley scheduled closing arguments in the trial for Monday, setting up the possibility of verdicts before Thanksgiving for the three white men charged with murder in Arbery’s death.

U.S., Canada, Mexico set to donate vaccines, unveil new methane curbs

WASHINGTON, Nov 18 (Reuters) - Leaders of the United States, Canada and Mexico are set to agree to new methane curbs and COVID-19 vaccine donations when they meet for the first time in five years on Thursday, according to senior Biden administration officials.

The U.S. officials expect the three North American countries to agree to cut methane emissions in their oil-and-gas sectors by 60% to 75% by 2030, as the countries work to curb the potent greenhouse gas.

U.S. House votes to censure Republican congressman Gosar for posting controversial anime

WASHINGTON, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. House voted Wednesday to censure Paul Gosar, Republican of Arizona, and remove him from his committee seats after he posted an anime on his social media accounts depicting himself attacking New York Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and insulting President Joe Biden.

The censure resolution was passed in a 223-207-1 vote, with GOP representatives Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois joining all Democrats in casting the "yea" vote while Ohio Republican Congressman Dave Joyce voting "present."
