USA: Stocks wobble, oil prices rise despite release of crude

(AP) --- Stocks wobbled in choppy trading on Wall Street Tuesday as gains from banks and energy companies tempered losses from communications and technology companies.

The S&P 500 fell 0.2% as of 11:42 a.m. Eastern. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 50 points, or 0.1%, to 35,669 and the Nasdaq fell 1%.

Bond yields edged higher. The yield on the 10-year Treasury rose to 1.66% from 1.63% late Monday. That helped send banks higher. Bank of America rose 2.3%.

USA: Jury awards $26M in damages for Unite the Right violence

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — A jury ordered 17 white nationalist leaders and organizations to pay more than $26 million in damages Tuesday over the violence that erupted during the deadly 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville in 2017.

After a nearly monthlong civil trial, the jury in U.S. District Court deadlocked on two key claims but found the white nationalists liable on four other claims in the lawsuit filed by nine people who suffered physical or emotional injuries during the two days of demonstrations.

(AP) --- An 8-year-old boy became the sixth person to die Tuesday as a result of a man driving his SUV into a suburban Milwaukee Christmas parade, with a criminal complaint alleging that the suspect in the case steered side-to-side with the intent of striking marchers and spectators.

U.S. Republicans block gov't vaccine mandates amid increasing COVID-19 cases: U.S. News & World Report

WASHINGTON, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Republicans tried to block President Joe Biden's vaccine mandates under the pretext of natural immunity amid rising COVID-19 cases nationwide, according to the website of U.S. News and World Report.

Republicans were quoted by a recent report as saying that people who have recovered from the virus have enough immunity and antibodies, therefore they do not need COVID-19 vaccines.

USA Authorities: 3 missing after Flint home explosion, fire

FLINT, Mich. (AP) — Three people were missing following a fire and explosion at a home in Michigan that damaged several adjacent homes and sent debris falling onto a neighborhood, authorities said.

In addition to those missing after the Monday night explosion in Flint, two people were hospitalized, Fire Department Battalion Chief Ramsey Clapper told WEYI-TV. Nearby homes were damaged or destroyed and there were reports the explosion was felt miles away.

Flint Police Chief Terence Green told MLive-The Flint Journal at the scene that “there appears to be fatalities.”

USA: Texas congressman joins GOP race for attorney general

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert has joined the crowded field of Republicans mounting primary challenges against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

The East Texas lawmaker is the latest prominent Republican seeking to unseat his party’s incumbent in the wake of Paxton’s top deputies reporting him to the FBI last year for alleged corruption. Gohmert announced his candidacy on Twitter Monday with a fundraising request that highlighted “the latest ethical, moral, and criminal allegations” against Paxton.
