North Korea Fires Two Short-Range Ballistic Missiles Into East Sea

NEW YORK, Mar 21 (NNN-YONHAP) – The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), fired two short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea, from North Pyongan province, on Saturday local time (today), South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, were quoted as saying.

On Mar 9, the DPRK reportedly test-fired short-range projectiles into the East Sea.

On Mar 2, it fired two unidentified projectiles into the eastern waters.

Russia starts testing vaccine against COVID-19

MOSCOW, March 20 (NNN-TASS) — Russia’s sanitary watchdog Rospotrebnadzor has launched tests of a vaccine against the novel coronavirus, reported Russian news agency TASS.

“In Russia in order to prevent and control the COVID-19 epidemic the State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology Vector of Rospotrebnadzor has swiftly developed prototypes of vaccines based on six various technological platforms,” the watchdog said.

Experts have managed to create vaccines based on broadly used recombinant viral vectors of flu.

Germany hits back over US virus vaccine interest

Berlin, Mar 16 (AFP/PTI) The German government has promised to defend itself against alleged attempts by US president Donald Trump to buy exclusive rights to a German company's research into a vaccine against the coronavirus.

"Germany is not for sale," economy minister Peter Altmaier told broadcaster ARD, reacting to a front page report in Welt am Sonntag newspaper headlined "Trump vs Berlin".

India: FOC-Standard LCA Tejas takes to skies on maiden flight

Bengaluru, Mar 17 (PTI) The first Light Combat Aircraft Tejas in Final Operational Clearance-standard (SP-21) took to the skies for its maiden flight here on Tuesday, the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited said.

Piloted by Air Cmde. K A Muthana (Retd), Chief Test Flying (Fixed Wing), the aircraft took-off from HAL Airport at around 1230 hours, the Bengaluru-headquartered defence PSU said in a statement.

Egypt to use Chinese satellite launching stations

CAIRO, March 15 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The Egyptian government has approved the request of the county’s space agency to contract with a Chinese institution for using its satellite launching stations.

The Egyptian Space Agency was approved to sign a contact with the China Great Wall Industry Corporation to use its stations to launch Egyptian satellites, Egypt’s official news agency MENA, has said.

Kuwait Launches Robotics, AI Festival

KUWAIT, Feb 10 (NNN-XINHUA) – Kuwait launched, on Sunday, the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Festival, to promote scientific awareness in Kuwait.

At the opening ceremony, Salam Al-Ablani, scientific culture director, of the Kuwaiti Foundation for Advancement of Science (KFAS), said that, the festival aims at boosting the scientific culture in smart industries, and aiding the youth develop their skills, in line with Kuwait’s future aspirations.

Malaysia: Langkawi hospital’s success with coronavirus infected girl shows virus is treatable

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 (NNN-BERNAMA) — A girl from China who had been earlier confirmed with 2019-nCov infection and treated at the Hospital Sultanah Maliha in Langkawi, has been discharged following recovery from the virus.

Commending the hospital for its successful treatment of the girl, Ministry of Health Director General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement Tuesday said the girl’s successful treatment showed that the 2019-nCoV infection was treatable and that patients could recover completely, as had been reported in many cases in China.

Iran To Launch New Home-Made Satellite

TEHRAN, Jan 23 (NNN-TASNIM) – New Iranian satellite, Zafar, will be sent into orbit in a few weeks, the Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, announced on Wednesday.

Jahromi said, Zafar will be launched before Feb 11.

Two versions of Zafar have been manufactured, so that if the first launch fails, the second satellite will be immediately prepared as a replacement, he was quoted as saying.

The new satellite will be sent into space with the Iranian Simorgh satellite carrier, he added.

Malaysia moving closer to 5G roll out – Gobind

LANGKAWI, Malaysia, Jan 20 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The launching of the 5G Demonstration Projects (5GDP) here Sunday night is an important milestone as Malaysia moves a step closer towards implementing 5G in the near future, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

He said 72 use cases were being demonstrated across 56 5G live sites in six states and added that in Langkawi alone, there were 35 use cases at 25 live sites.
