India: PM hands over 'chadar' for Ajmer Sharif dargah

New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday handed over a 'chadar' to be offered at the Ajmer Sharif dargah on the occasion of 808th Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.

The Prime Minister's Office posted pictures on its Twitter handle of Modi handing over the 'chadar' to a delegation from the Ajmer Sharif Sufi shrine.

India: Around 3,000 tonne gold deposits found in UP's Sonbhadra

Sonbhadra (UP) Feb 21 (PTI) The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has discovered gold deposits to the tune of around 3,000 tonnes in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh, almost five times India's current reserve of the yellow metal, officials said on Friday.

The gold deposits were found in Son Pahadi and Hardi areas here, district mining officer K K Rai said.

India: Chilly weather returns, residents feeling brunt

KANPUR: Recently, there was rain with thunderstorms leading the minimum temperature to a low level. 

According to the weather reports, the minimum temperature stayed at 15 degrees Celsius on Saturday. 

There were cold winds blowing all around making the situation quite cumbersome as enough sunrays fail to keep us warm.

Taking to residents it becomes clear they are not sure of coming out of the agonizing situation quite early. Even the met department has not indicated at the relief from colder conditions.

HC allows Bhim Army to hold meeting at ground near RSS HQ

Nagpur,Feb 21 (PTI) The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court on Friday allowed the Bhim Army to hold a meeting of its workers at Reshimbagh Ground here on February 22, but imposed certain conditions.

A division bench of Justices Sunil Shukre and Madhav Jamdar said the petition of the Dalit outfit, seeking permission for the conclave, is allowed with conditions.

Indian freelance journalist wins AFP's Kate Webb Prize

Hong Kong, Feb 20 (AFP/PTI) Ahmer Khan, the 27-year-old Indian freelance reporter, was named the winner of the 2019 Agence France-Presse Kate Webb Prize on Thursday for his coverage on the ground in Kashmir during the lockdown of the region.

The award, named after one of AFP's finest correspondents, recognises journalism by locally hired reporters in Asia operating in risky or difficult conditions.

India: Sisodia meets FM Nirmala Sitharaman, demands Delhi's share in Central taxes

New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI) Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and demanded Delhi's share in central taxes, which he said would help speed up cleaning the Yamuna and make arrangements for sufficient electricity and water supply in the city.

Taking to Twitter, Sisodia, who also holds the finance portfolio in the AAP government, said Delhi has not been given any share in central taxes since 2001.

India: Man convicted for raping daughter in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarmagar, Feb 20 (PTI) A special court here on Thursday convicted a man for raping his 14-year-old daughter while the grandfather, grandmother and uncle of the victim were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court judge Sanjiv Kumar Tiwari has fixed February 24 for quantum of punishment in the case.

India: Civil rights groups demand restoration of Art 370

New Delhi, Feb 20 (PTI) Scores of people from different organisations, including the AISA and the AIDWA, gathered at the Jantar Mantar here on Thursday demanding restoration of Article 370 of the Constitution.

They expressed solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and demanded that the government restore Article 370 and give full statehood to the Union territory.

The programme was organised by the AIDWA, AISA, ANHAD, DASAM, DSG, DTF, IPTA, Khudai Khidmatgar, NAPM, NFIW, OBR India, PIPFPD, RYA, Sangwari, SFI and Youth Alliance for Peace.
