India: Traffic affected in Khureji Khas due to anti-CAA protest

New Delhi, Feb 23 (PTI) Traffic movement was affected in northeast Delhi's Khureji Khas area on Monday after a large group, comprising mostly women, gathered there to protest against the CAA, police said.

They said the protesters, approximately less than 100 in number, assembled on a stretch leading to the main road of Khureji Khas for a sit-in demanding roll back of the amended anti-citizenship law.

India: AAP eyeing UP polls after thumping victory in Delhi

Lucknow, Feb 23 (PTI) After registering a thumping victory in the Delhi elections, the Aam Aadmi Party is eying the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls scheduled in 2022 and said that it will seek votes in the name of Delhi's development model.

AAP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh claimed that the BJP's "Gujarat model" was nothing compared to his party's Delhi development model.

He said workers will reach out to the people in UP and tell them about party's development agenda and schemes.

Indian Gangster Ravi Pujari arrested in S.Africa, extradited

Bengaluru, Feb 23 (PTI) Fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari has been arrested in South Africa and being brought to India by a team of officials, including senior IPS officers from Karnataka, a top police official said on Sunday.

Pujari, wanted in many cases including extortion and murder and been on the run for over 15 years, was deported to Senegal, from where he had jumped bail last year, and extradited.

India: POCSO cells in Bihar schools to hear sexual harassment complain

Patna, Feb 23 (PTI) Schools in Bihar would soon have 'POCSO cells' to hear complaints of sexual misconduct and exploitation, a government official said here on Sunday.

Bihar Education Project Council, an organization dedicated to achieving Universal Elementary Education (UEE) in the state, had last week issued direction to all district education officers to set up POCSO cells in schools, with students among others as its members, she said.

India: Maha Budget session: BJP to boycott customary tea party

Mumbai, Feb 23 (PTI) Senior BJP leader and former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday announced the boycott of the customary tea party of the state government on the eve of the Budget session.

The Budget session will begin on Monday and continue till March 20.

India: Dr Kafeel Khan's maternal uncle shot dead in UP

Gorakhpur (UP), Feb 23 (PTI) The maternal uncle of Dr Kafeel Khan, who was recently arrested for allegedly making inflammatory statements during anti-CAA protests, was shot dead in front of his house at Bankatichak in Rajghat area here, police said on Sunday.

Dr Nusratullah Warsi aka Dada (55), a property dealer, was shot dead on Saturday night at about 10:45 pm and an FIR against two people was filed in this connection on a written complaint of his family members.

Nine Dead, Five Injured As Vehicle Falls Into Deep Gorge In Indian-Controlled Kashmir

NEW DELHI, Feb 23 (NNN-PTI) – Nine people died and five others were injured, when a vehicle fell into a deep gorge, in Indian-controlled Kashmir, a local police official said, over the phone.

The accident occurred in the Malhar area of Kathua district, on Saturday evening (last night), the police official said.

“Eye-witnesses said that the vehicle, a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), carrying 14 people, was being driven at a high speed.

The driver lost control of the vehicle at a sudden turn, and, as a result, the vehicle fell into a deep gorge,” the police said.

India: Metro engineers apply fresh know-how for project

KANPUR: It appears that the metro rail will run quite timely in the city areas. The work is going on fast and fresh construction technique is being applied by the engineers in lending a boost to the work on a completely new track for the daily ride.

As the news goes, a change in construction techniques have been brought into a priority for the project. The concourse slab will now be prepared in advance at the casting yard and later placed at the map's designated location. This will not only reduce the time but also safety concerns. 

India: Maha village passes resolution against CAA, NRC

Aurangabad, Feb 22 (PTI) Patrud village in Beed district of Maharashtra has passed a resolution against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The gram panchayat of Patrud in Majalgaon tehsil passed the resolution at its meeting held on February 2.

The copy of the resolution has gone viral on social media.

India: Three-tier security in place at hotel for Trump's visit

New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI) The floor where the Grand Presidential Suite is located at the ITC Maurya here is out of bounds for most hotel staff owing to the elaborate security arrangements being made for the visit of President Donald Trump and his family, sources said.

Trump will stay at the 'Chanakya' suite of the hotel, which has hosted the likes of former US presidents George Bush and Barack Obama.
