India: STF jawan injured in encounter with Naxals in C'garh

Raipur, Feb 26 (PTI) A Special Task Force (STF) jawan was on Wednesday injured in an encounter with Naxals in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

The gun-battle took place around 9 am when a team of STF was out on an area domination operation in the forest of Chhotedongar police station area, located around 350 kms from the state capital Raipur, a police official told PTI.

India: Azam Khan, wife, son sent to judicial custody for allegedly faking son's birth certificate.

Lucknow, Feb 26 (PTI) Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan, his legislator wife Tanzin Fatima and MLA son Abdullah Azam were on Wednesday sent to judicial custody for allegedly faking Abdullah's birth certificate.

They have been sent to judicial custody till March 2," Rampur Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Mishra told PTI.

The case relates to a forged birth certificate for Azam's son. Abdullah had faced allegations that he gave a wrong date of birth when he filed his nomination papers for the assembly elections.

India: Death toll in northeast Delhi violence over CAA rises to 22

New Delhi, Feb 26 (PTI) The death toll in the northeast Delhi communal violence over the amended citizenship law rose to 22 on Wednesday, according to GTB Hospital authorities.

On Tuesday, the death toll was 13.

"The death toll has risen to 22," Medical Superintendent of GTB Hospital Sunil Kumar Gautam said.

Of the 22 deceased, four were brought to the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital from the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital earlier in the day, a senior official said.

Bus Mishap Claims 24 Lives In Western India

NEW DELHI, Feb 26 (NNN-PTI) – As many as 24 people were killed and five others injured, when a bus fell into a river, in India’s western state of Rajasthan on Wednesday, confirmed a local cop.

The mishap occurred in the Lakheri area of the state’s Bundi district.

The bus, carrying 29 passengers, was on its way from Kota area to Sawaimadhopur district of the state.

The accident took place at around 10.00 hours (local time).

The injured passengers were admitted in a local hospital. Further details are awaited.

India: Ganga bridge to have huge display board on Jajmau side

KANPUR:  It is yet another beautification of the city side of Ganga bridge on Kanpur-Lucknow highway in Jajmau. It has been finally proposed.

A huge sized display board about the city's historical and the geographical information will be installed on the space suitable for the purpose of it.

Considering it an extremely significant and informative board the District Magistrate has directed the officials to show complete authentic information about the city.

He also instructed them to make proper greenery around the Jajmau entry point of the bridge.

Indian police issues shoot-at-sight orders as death toll reaches 13 in citizenship law-related violence

NEW DELHI, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Indian police on Tuesday evening issued shoot-at-sight orders in the affected areas in New Delhi, as communal violence over the controversial citizenship law intensifies in the capital, officials said.

"Police deployment has been made in affected areas and order of shoot at sight have been issued to calm the tempers," a local government official said.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the violence over the citizenship law has risen to 13.

"The death toll has gone up to 13," a health official of the Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) hospital said.

While India seems to love Trump, the reality isn’t so simple

“The leadership of President Trump has served humanity,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Monday, highlighting Trump’s fight against terrorism and calling his 36-hour visit to India a watershed in India-U.S. relations.

25 February 2020; AFP: Donald Trump failed Tuesday to strike any major trade deal with India at the end of a visit big on photo opportunities but short on substance and overshadowed by deadly riots.

Speaking after talks in New Delhi with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the US president said only that they had made "tremendous progress" towards a comprehensive agreement and that he was "optimistic we can reach a deal".
