India: Woman gangraped in UP's Mathura

Mathura (UP), Aug 7 (PTI) A woman was allegedly raped by four men here, who also made a video of the incident and sent it to her in-laws, police said

Police said on Saturday that three of the four accused have been arrested in the case.

The survivor had gone to a public service centre on May 28 to fill a form for the post of Anganwadi worker when the operator of the centre, a computer operator, a shop owner and another man sexually assaulted her.

India Offers To Sell 18 Fighter Jets To Malaysia

NEW DELHI, Aug 6 (NNN-PTI) – India’s federal defence ministry, yesterday said, it has offered to sell 18 indigenously-developed light combat aircraft (LCA), Tejas, to Malaysia.

The ministry said, six countries: Argentina, Australia, Egypt, the United States, Indonesia and the Philippines, have also shown interest in the single-engine fighter jet.

India bids to sell fighter jets to Malaysia, says six other countries interested

NEW DELHI, Aug 5 (Reuters) - India has offered to sell 18 light-combat aircraft (LCA) "Tejas" to Malaysia, the defence ministry said on Friday, adding that Argentina, Australia, Egypt, the United States, Indonesia, and the Philippines were also interested in the single-engine jet.

The Indian government last year gave a $6 billion contract to state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HIAE.NS) for 83 of the locally produced Tejas jets for delivery starting around 2023 - four decades after it was first approved in 1983.

India: Two die, three hurt as boundary wall collapses in Kanpur

Kanpur: Two old people died tragically after being buried under the rubble when a wall collapsed during the rain. Three people have been injured in the accident.

The wall of Allahabad Bank located near Bada Chauraha in Kanpur collapsed during the rain on Wednesday afternoon.

Two people, including an old woman, died after being buried under the spilt rubble. Three people were reported to be injured.

Police reached out after getting the sad information and admitted the injured to Ursala Hospital here. After the incident, there was shouting on the spot.

India: Govt cuts windfall tax on diesel, ATF export; raises levy on domestic crude oil

New Delhi, Aug 3 (PTI) The government has halved the windfall tax on the export of diesel and scrapped the levy on jet fuel (ATF) shipments but raised the tax on domestically produced crude oil.

The tax on the export of diesel was cut to Rs 5 per litre from Rs 11, according to an official notification issued on Tuesday evening.

Export of petrol will continue to attract nil tax.

New Delhi, Aug 3 (PTI) BJP MP Varun Gandhi on Wednesday said before questioning freebies given to the public, there should be a discussion on pension and perks of parliamentarians.

Referring to his party leader Sushil Modi's notice in the Rajya Sabha demanding a discussion on "ending the culture of freebies", Gandhi in a tweet said, "Before pointing fingers at the relief given to the public, we should look within."

India: UP Police constable arrested in rape case

Saharanpur, Aug 2 (PTI) A 25-year-old police constable has been arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping a BSc student, police said.

Superintendent of Police (city) Rajesh Kumar told PTI that a police constable posted at a police station in Amroha district, and a resident of Deoband, has allegedly raped a BSc student after blackmailing her to post her edited photograph.

A case has been registered against the police constable at Deoband police station, and he has been arrested, he added.

India: Ambedkar's statue defiled in UP village

Bhadohi (UP), Aug 3 (PTI) A statue of B R Ambedkar was defiled in Deegh village of the district, police said on Wednesday.

A local identified as Pawan informed police about the matter on Tuesday following which a police team reached the spot and got the 1.5-feet tall statue, which had fallen on the ground, reinstalled, Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar said.

An FIR has been registered under IPC section 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and probe is on in the matter.

India: 18-year-old gang raped in UP village

Ballia (UP), Aug 3 (PTI) An 18-year-old woman was allegedly raped by four people when she had stepped out to ease herself in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district, police said on Wednesday.

The woman in her police complaint alleged that the incident took place on July 30.

The accused, aged between 25 and 35 years, and the woman are from the same village under Nagra police station limits, they said.
