India: Voice raised over fee on morning walkers at Nana Rao Park in Kanpur

Kanpur: There has been a protest against the decision of the Municipal Corporation to collect tax from the morning walkers at Nana Rao Park in Phoolbagh here.

On Monday, a decision was taken by the municipal executive body to pay fees to those visiting Nana Rao Park. 

It was decided to charge free children up to the age of 5 years, Rs 5 for children from 6 to 12 years and Rs 10 for people above.

The fee will be charged from September 1. One month's pass will be made for Rs 250. The morning walkers will also have to pay a fee. Informs Mayor Pramila Pandey.

India: Ease of doing drug business, Rahul asks in attack on PM over Gujarat 'drug hauls'

New Delhi, Aug 22 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over multiple drug hauls from Gujarat and asked for how long he would be silent on the matter.

His attack came days after the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai Police busted a mephedrone manufacturing unit in Gujarat and seized drugs worth Rs 1,026 crore.

India: 17-year-old rape victim found dead in canal in UP

Barabanki (UP), Aug 22 (PTI) The body of a 17-year-old rape victim was recovered from a canal here, police said on Monday.

Police said the body was seen floating in the Indira Canal near Kazipur Behta village located on the Sitapur border on Saturday.

Additional Superintendent of Police Punendra Singh said according to the post-mortem report, she died due to drowning.

During investigation, police found that the girl, a resident of the Sandana police area, had left her house on August 18 for a court hearing and did not return.

Kanpur Metro train develops snag at Geeta Nagar station

Kanpur: Metro operation began as usual at 6 in the morning. At around 7:30 a.m., the metro train stopped at Geeta Nagar station.

Despite attempts to start the engine again it was not starting to run again. Due to this, other trains coming from behind also had to stop at different stations.

There was a problem with the wiring inside the train, as was reportedly said.

Attempts were made to rectify the problem on the spot but the engineers could not fix it at the station.

India: Kasmiri leader Mehbooba Mufti placed under house arrest, again

Srinagar, Aug 21 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday claimed she had been put under house arrest to stop her from visiting the family of Kashmiri Pandit Sunil Kumar Bhat who was shot dead by terrorists in Shopian recently.

Taking to Twitter, Mufti posted pictures of the locked gates of her residence in Gupkar area here and a CRPF vehicle parked outside.

India: UP rape victim's brother found dead

Bulandshahr (UP), Aug 20 (PTI) A rape victim's brother died here under mysterious circumstances and his body was found hanging from a tree, police said on Saturday.

The rape had taken place on August 13.

Police said one of the rape accused has been arrested while the other is absconding.

A police official said they had received information that a man hanged himself from a tree at a garden in the Ahar area. The body has been sent for a post-mortem.

India: BJP's Ex Lok Sabha member Haribhau Rathod set to join AAP

New Delhi, Aug 21 (PTI) Former Lok Sabha member and prominent OBC leader Haribhau Rathod is all set to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday.

Rathod, who was the Lok Sabha member of the BJP from Yavatmal in Maharashtra, told PTI that he would join the AAP on Sunday in the presence of the party's National Convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

India: No plans to import wheat: Govt sources

New Delhi, Aug 21 (PTI) The government has no plans to import wheat as it has sufficient stocks to meet the country's requirements, official sources said.

The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has enough stock for public distribution, they added.

"There are no plans to import wheat into India. The country has sufficient stocks to meet our domestic requirements," a source said.

India: Poll schedule to elect new Cong chief gets underway

New Delhi, Aug 21 (PTI) The process for the election of Congress president got underway on Sunday, with the party's election authority saying it would stick to the schedule of electing a new chief by September 20.

Chairman of the party's Central Election Authority Madhusudan Mistry told PTI that it was up to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) to approve the final date for the election of the Congress chief, which could be any day between August 21 to September 20.

India: Slight surge in city's corona cases causes clamping of Section 144

Kanpur: Section 144 was clamped in the Kanpur district on Saturday, an official government spokesman said.

According to the details, prohibitory orders have been imposed in the city in view of a slight surge in coronavirus infections, several examinations and festivals in days to come.

The restrictions, announced on Saturday evening, will be effective for a complete calender month.

Section 144 of the CrPC restricts the gathering of more than four to five people at a place, the spokesman added.
