India: Mentally challenged youth scales up on railways OHE pole

Kanpur: A youth was seen climbing up the OHE Line near Barrrajpur railway station in Kanpur's town Shivrajpur on Anwarganj- Kasganj rail route on Friday morning.

After passing the train some distance away from the level crossing gate, people started making noise when they saw the young man climbing on the OHE pole.

People informed the police of the apprehension of an accident due to the 25 thousand kV current running in the OHE line.

When the police reached the spot, brought the young man down after persuading him to get down.

India launches indigenous vaccine for prevention of cervical cancer

NEW DELHI, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- India's Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh on Thursday announced the launch of the country's first indigenously developed vaccine "Cervavac" for the prevention of cervical cancer.

The vaccine has been jointly developed by the Serum Institute of India, located in Pune city in the southern western state of Maharashtra, and the Department of Biotechnology under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.

India: Rain lashes out in Jajmau, waterlogging irks public

Kanpur: More than half an hour of rain in the Jajmau area of the city gravely aggravated the woes of the public.

The water logging on the road crossing at Nai Chungi gave a bad look at traffic jams.

The highway was almost blocked due to rainwater. The drivers applied all the ways to speed up the motors, bikes and cycles.

Owing to jam on the road the traffic moved slowly. What was worse on the road was potholes? For a short-distance vehicle users followed a long distance to reach the school.

India's GDP grows at 13.5 percent in April-June period: gov't data

NEW DELHI, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- India's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 13.5 percent during the April-June quarter, showed the official data released by the country's National Statistical Office on Wednesday.

April to June is the first quarter of India's financial year, which begins in April and ends in March of the following year.

The country's central bank, the Reserve Bank of India, had forecast the growth rate to be around 16.2 percent during the quarter.

India: Three thieves rob couple of cash & jewellery in Kanpur's Mardanpur

Kanpur: Three unknown miscreants entered a house and looted a couple at gunpoint in district's Mardanpur village. The thieves also stole gold jewellery & Rs 45,000 cash from the house.

On Monday night, the thieves entered the house of a grocery trader named Amit Sahu. On account of the ongoing construction on the first floor, Amit, wife Lalita and their son were sleeping on the ground floor.

India: Haridwar Dharma Sansad case: SC directs hate speech accused to surrender by Sept 2

New Delhi, Aug 29 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Monday directed Jitendra Narayan Tyagi, an accused in the Haridwar Dharma Sansad case related to alleged inflammatory speeches made against Muslims, to surrender by September 2.

Tyagi, formerly known as Wasim Rizvi, is currently out on medical bail.

India: SC drops contempt case against Prashant Bhushan, Tarun Tejpal

New Delhi, Aug 30 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday dropped a contempt case against activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan and journalist Tarun Tejpal filed in 2009 over their remarks against the judiciary.

A bench of Justices Indira Banerjee, Surya Kant and M M Sundresh closed the proceedings after senior advocate Kapil Sibal informed that an apology has been tendered.

Indian Govt may invite financial bids for Shipping Corp sale in March

New Delhi, Aug 30 (PTI) The government is likely to invite financial bids for privatisation of state-owned Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) in the March quarter, an official said.

"The demerger of non-core and land assets of Shipping Corporation is at an advanced stage. The process is expected to be over in about three months' time, after which financial bids will be invited," the official told PTI.

India: 45,026 females committed suicide in 2021, over half were housewives

New Delhi, Aug 30 (PTI) As many as 45,026 females committed suicides during 2021 in the country of whom more than half were housewives.

According to a latest report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), a total of 1,64,033 people have committed suicide in 2021 across the country of whom 1,18,979 were males.

India: CBI has found nothing in my locker, Sisodia

New Delhi, Aug 30 (PTI) The CBI found nothing during its search of his locker, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Tuesday.

A four-member team of the CBI conducted the search at a Punjab National Bank branch in Vasundhara, Ghaziabad, for nearly two hours. Sisodia and his wife wre present at the time.

The CBI was acting under pressure, Sisodia told reporters after the search was over.
